(15,805 posts)The news occasionally mentions a church- not sure if that means that its members make up most of the original outbreak or not.
Regardless, any anti-vaxxer drives me nuts.

(3,014 posts)We just moved from PDX where my kiddo was in public school. So many kids had vaccine waivers. Ridiculous. Even some of my daughters friends.

(86,508 posts)both measles, chicken pox, mumps. We had a big batch of kids, seven of nine in the house at one time, and by the time I got through the illness, I would get it again from a sibling who caught it later. That was back in the 50s and 60s.

(92 posts)My kids are vaccinated; so are their friends. Let's just say the gullible buy this bullshit anti-vax argument and run with it all the way until they get sick or their kids do.
Tragic stupidity.

(23,301 posts)your kid cannot come to school without up to date vax records. If you dont have them, your kid gets sent home. I dont have a problem with that. I know parents who were late getting their kids vaccinated and they were politely asked to take their kids and go down to the health department for shots before coming back. We couldnt even register kiddos for middle school without vax records.

(23,301 posts)I did ask the secretary at my sons middle school how many kids had waivers and she said maybe a handful, like 10 or less in a school of 800 kids. Thats not bad. Im not saying it isnt a problem nationally. It is, and it puts us all at risk.

(2,855 posts)there are doctors running ads touting their willingness to give a medical (not religious) exemption.
based on un-related reasons like food allergies or emotional distress.
I can't remember where I saw the report on this a few days ago. Must have been MSNBC.
when confronted, instead of being shamed, the doctors were smug and boastful saying that all the law requires is for them to see the patient and read her medical records. there is nothing stopping them from giving the exemptions in this manner. apparently their ethics (concern for infecting other kids) don't come into play here. it's a nice boost to their practices $$$$.
