The calls were made to friends of the family.
Unknowingly, they allowed Tiny to receive a phone call on their phones, while not being a party to the “event”. Now, because they are now linked to the meeting in Trump Tower, they are now forced to choose to being tarnished with this mess, or share that they were used by Trump and allowed him access to their phones. So, maybe the question is - are you willing to sacrifice your name and honor in loyalty to Tiny.
