(58,724 posts)If he darkened his face to look like Michael Jackson for a dance contest, as he described, would that be equally as offensive as the image found in the yearbook?

(14,249 posts)If so, that wasn't "darkening his skin" to look like Michael Jackson - he could have done that with dark makeup - what he described is minstrelsy.
I suspect this is just a cover for when the pictures of him undeniably in blackface surface.

(58,724 posts)I appreciate your insights into this topic.
I wonder if photos will surface of him as MJ at some point.

(58,724 posts)Do you think he is lying about the yearbook photos?
It seems pretty far fetched that a picture like that would have ended up on his yearbook page without his knowledge or approval. His explanation for that is pretty hard to believe - especially bearing in mind that last night he seemed to be admitting that he was in the photo.
With respect to the Michael Jackson admission - there was something about the way he referenced putting on and removing shoe polish that seemed to indicate that he may have had some familiarity with putting on blackface.
I have to say - his press conference did not inspire a lot of confidence.

(2,682 posts)I'm not excusing his bad judgement and lack of discretion for posing for the picture in the first place, but I know from my own experience that a picture can be used without the subject's permission.
In my sophomore year high school yearbook (1960's) there is a picture of me in a PE class that I didn't know was taken. The picture wasn't a general group picture but was of me alone. I was never asked for my or my parents permission to use it but there it was in the book. Not a particularly flattering picture and if given the choice i would have declined. I didn't know it was there until I got my copy of the book.
I think the real issue with the governor is why the picture was taken at all.

Really? I'm glad I didn't watch.
