I can't vote for you because you're Republican

“Ninety percent of the feedback we received was, ‘I can’t vote for you because you’re Republican,’” Baker said. “That message to Republicans is, ‘Your brand is toxic in this state.’ That’s why the party has a very faint pulse right now.”

I think that over the next twenty years the racist Republican party will become a dead party.

Unfortunately not.

In much of the country the fear of change, diversity, and inclusion will keep the GOP alive and well for quite some time to come.

It's exactly that way for some people who world never ever ever never vote Democratic because of abortion. I think there's some loyal Democrats but not nearly as many as the GOP has. I would never vote Republican because I care about the environment, worker's rights, justice and liberty for all...
I really don't understand how anyone can decide those are secondary issues.

...I'm quite sure there are more than a few states and parts of the country where bringing up or asking about a Democrat would yield the same results, so I'm not necessarily expecting this "dead party" prediction to extend much beyond California.

I would like to think my own very blue state of New Jersey would be next to completely expel the GOP, and we did come close this last election with a blue wave. But thanks to a glut of obstructionist Democrats in the state (spoiler alert: it's not the progressive/liberal wing of the party), our Dem Governor and and the majority of our Dem statehouse are almost entirely gridlocked and it's turning a lot of the non-partisans off, with nobody BUT Dems to take the blame.

6. Baker - the Republican in question

"is pro-choice. She supports same-sex marriage rights and a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. She voted for the state’s leading-edge climate change law. She supported gun control measures in the Legislature."

Why is she still a Republican - that hasn't described the party almost for as long as she's been able to vote. Even if she is "fiscally conservative," the Republicans haven't been fiscally conservative for decades.

10. There was an article in the Atlantic a few months ago calling for a boycott of the Republican party

They said the only way to cleanse the party to to totally avoid voting for any Republican. Only then will the Republicans be party that can be respected. It would likely take decades for that to happen, and I doubt that I'll see it in my lifetime. Now, all I can say is that I refuse to ever vote for a republican again.
