(92,126 posts)he's old" comment, because that is exactly what your OP implies it is based on, his age.

(30,540 posts)knowing anything about the people he's interviewing, he's really lazy and it shows.

(7,843 posts)Matthews blathers on...he's not relevant..he pontificates...he's a "which way the wind is blowing" guy...he and Andrea Mitchell yearn for the old days of gee whiz can't we all get along beltway crap...and of course both hate the Clintons...

(92,126 posts)it is just he has been around too long.
Then why didn't the OP just say that in the OP instead of bringing in "he's old", assuming that people would assume that meant they meant he has been around too long.

(115,669 posts)and to suggest that a tv host needs to go because he's old is offensive (and I don't care how old you are). What's wrong with Matthews is not even suggestive of age; if anything he has too much energy and doesn't know when to shut up; he talks over and interrupts his guests and says stupid shit without any filters. He has been doing this forever. It has nothing to do with his age.

The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,669 posts)"That's what old people do"? No, they don't. Old people are individuals, not a bunch of useless babbling dotards. Please stop digging yourself farther into your hole of ageism. You're promoting a very offensive ageist stereotype that doesn't even apply to Matthews, who has been behaving this way for decades. You really need to stop it.

(115,669 posts)It's hurtful, just like all other forms of bigotry. Please think about that before you go spouting off about useless old people who talk too much.

(160,515 posts)He's dense, he's self-centered, he's indifferent to others, other than occassional hero-worship of odd people like George W., and has never treated his guests with proper respect. He's childish. He spits a lot when he speaks. He has a grotesque frog in his throat which never leaves. It almost triggers a gag response at times.
He looks like a pig, he acts like a pig.
However, to be completely honest, he has a few flaws, for sure, too.

(4,446 posts)ESPN let Lou Holtz hang around far too long. MSNBC needs to ditch Matthews. Not because of his age, but because hes not good at his job.

(14,565 posts)He can think like a swing voter, which isn't popular around here but it definitely is relevant.
He can also ask questions his guests are not prepared for.
These days he definitely is not as prepared day to day. I don't mind that because I prefer big picture generalities but I realize most viewers want to fixate on whatever took place that day.

(9,951 posts)...watch these early shows, I like Nicolle and Ari... Chuck Todd and Chris Matthews are not as interesting... Eventually, I would like to see Ron Reagan replace Matthews and Joy Reid replace Todd. I know that Reid lost her daily show earlier, but I think she's become a better journalist and can carry a MTP show, now.
