NYT: Pelosi Declares House Will Not Be Intimidated From Its Trump Inquiries

Pelosi Declares House Will Not Be Intimidated From Its Trump Inquiries

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/06/us/politics/trump-pelosi-house-investigations.html

WASHINGTON — A defiant Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared on Wednesday that House Democrats would not be cowed by President Trump’s “all-out threat” during his State of the Union address to drop their investigations of his administration, as fellow Democrats pushed ahead with a bevy of sensitive inquiries.

“It was a threat; it was an all-out threat,” Ms. Pelosi told reporters just hours after Mr. Trump’s address and on the eve of a hearing that will launch Democratic efforts to secure his long-suppressed tax returns — one of the inquiries likely to pique the president.

“It’s our congressional responsibility, and if we didn’t do it, we would be delinquent in that,” she said.

Ms. Pelosi also took a dig at Mr. Trump’s plan, detailed on Tuesday, to invest $500 million over ten years to developing new cures for childhood cancer, characterizing it as paltry.

“Five hundred million dollars over 10 years — are you kidding me?” she said, according to the aide. “Who gave him that figure? It’s like the cost of his protection of his Mar-a-Lago or something.”

So much for non descriptive reporting.

NYT should really Report the News about how Corrupt the Trump Crime Syndicate is.

One can be defiant of that which is right, or that which is wrong.

There's nothing right about Trump.

She's fighting for what's right.

Of course, no one in the 35% "base" will see it that way, but they can all kiss my ass.

If I thought the article painted her in a critical or judgmental light, I wouldn't have posted it.

adjectives such as defiant in reporting means only one thing, angry. And Speaker Pelosi will never let anything angry enter in her vocabulary. Have watched and listened to this Lady for forty years, she is a pro. She will use words like disappointed,or should be ashamed, the Lady is old school and understands words have consequences.

Again,if Reporters want to learn, follow her example of non Straw Man style of speaking or writing.

Pelosi isn't being "defiant" like some willful child (which is how I read it). She's re-asserting the power and prerogatives of a co-equal branch of government. For some odd reason, her predecessor wasn't very interested in exercising the House's powers under Article I of the Constitution.

to be honest, I imagine probably already more than $500 million is being spent already
today on cancer research (children vs. adult cancers differ?) annually!

Not spread over 10 years, $500 million yearly!

Cancer has been one of the primary diseases that unfortunately affect both children and adults. It has always has had a tremendous amount of funding for research into cures, treatments, etc., for at least the last 25 years and more.

Again, points to the administration pulling numbers out of thin air.

Of course the big issue is will the additional money do any good? Are there areas of research identified that should receive this money? I would suspect that any areas that are promising would have received funding already. What I don't have confidence in is someone of rump's caliber tracking this issue to its logical end, e.g., the additional funding results in some positive benefits.

And when you find one that's your favorite, add it to the dictionary definition of "emboldened."

He wasn't the only one. There wasn't a single "threatened" Dem in the house. Only McConnell looked like someone had broken his binky.
