Farm Belt bankruptcies are soaring

A wave of bankruptcies is sweeping the U.S. Farm Belt as trade disputes add pain to the low commodity prices that have been grinding down American farmers for years.

Throughout much of the Midwest, U.S. farmers are filing for chapter 12 bankruptcy protection at levels not seen for at least a decade, a Wall Street Journal review of federal data shows.

Bankruptcies in three regions covering major farm states last year rose to the highest level in at least 10 years. The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, which includes Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin, had double the bankruptcies in 2018 compared with 2008. In the Eighth Circuit, which includes states from North Dakota to Arkansas, bankruptcies swelled 96%. The 10th Circuit, which covers Kansas and other states, last year had 59% more bankruptcies than a decade earlier.

States in those circuits accounted for nearly half of all sales of U.S. farm products in 2017, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data.

are considered the top Auctioneer's in Ohio. Understand they are booked solid through the balance of the year and into next year.

Their Sales are the multi million dollar sell outs both retirements and Bank forced Sales and at this point, there are buyers still buying used equipment and the prices are still holding. The Pattern seems to be,more consolidation and all that land that should be idled is just changing hands and over all debt load is increasing. The biggest loser is you and I,the operators who are heading for debt relief are those who were propped up by the Farm Credit Agencies which use Department of Ag money or loan guarantees to lend to these operators.

Will be watching a couple of Farm Machinery Dealers that I know of that are on the verge. This folks expanded four years ago in order to meet the area demand for new equipment as well as service. Another to watch is Titan Finical, they own or operate the twenty largest Dealers in the Upper Midwest.

Before all the big farming companies come and buy up the property? Maybe that was the plan all along, another trump "con job" and he will get his cut for doing such a good job of forcing the farmers to sell out using tariffs as a weapon.
