Has the country moved into a crisis situation?

Even Republicans are beginning to see the seriousness of the matter.

It is beyond Political Party. It is about national security and, in this instance, partisanship stops at the water's edge.

One person was permitted to shut down our government for 35 days!

He was abusing his authority and usurping the authority of the US Congress. The shutdown began during the last days of the Republican Congress and ended during a new Democratic Congress.

He warns the new Congress that there can be no "peace or legislation" if there is "war and investigations"? What did he mean?

That he views the investigations against him as a "war"?

Better late than never, the House and Senate seem ready to reclaim their hold as an independent branch of government, not there to serve any one person.

The investigations will have to continue so long as the dishonesty and lies continue. The new Democratic Congress has no other choice.

It would be nice if we came out of this one, too.

and a stupid crook, like we have now, is the worst thing imaginable.

Anyway, I was thinking more along the lines of the Kansas Nebraska Act, Smoot-Hawley tariff, Tammany Hall in NYC, other mobs running Boston, Chicago, New Orleans...

I'm the same age and I remember when they set the dogs and water cannons on people trying to get rid of "black" water fountains. and just get a decent seat on the bus or in a lunch counter.

Little things like the Dust Bowl, Depression and Civil War make these times almost idyllic.

All that is in the past, and we survived it, although barely. We seem to take two steps back for every three forward, but that one step forward can give us hope.

WE have never ever seen the level of treachery and animosity against the American people and constantly taking actions that benefit a hostile foreign country to our detriment in our long history. This criminal traitorous enterprise that has stolen the seat of power in the USA is totally new and abhorrent. I don't see how we will come out of this intact if he's allowed to stay in power.

Most of us saw the potential for crisis as crisis itself. Now that the potential has become reality, the rest of the country is waking up.

But their still 100% supportive. Maybe because republicans don't want to show their shame for what they've done.

There is a fatal flaw in the constitution, and it caused a civil war before. I'm not sure how it will play out this time.

We are currently being governed by a minority. Just over 50% of the country lives in just 9 states. Only two of them are west of the Mississippi river. 7 states have 1 representative, which means which every party wins the election, represents that whole state. 5 states only have two, which does allow for a "split", currently none are though. And those 7 that have one, several have one party for both senators.

A country can't be run by the minority. Worse, a country that is governed by a minority tends to concentrate it's power and shrinks the minority, not the reverse. We already see voter suppression as the GOP attempts to solidify their control. They are in lock step with a president with minority support and elected by a minority. Presidents typically have to worry about 36% approval ratings to get support in congress. This president has not needed it, because he governs from the point of view of a minority.

It will probably get worse because soon 70% of the country is going to live in just 15 states. Right now, it's just 17 states, and all but 3 are east of the Mississippi. And I don't see it getting better anytime soon.
