AOC on Chuck Toad right now.
I really haven't wanted to like her - not sure why, really. Oh, you know, she's an upstart (uppity young woman?)
ahem. She will be a force to be reckoned with. Smart, articulate, confident ... God help me, I am sold.

(2,275 posts)Can we NOT be as stupid as Republicans and start THINKING like Hillary, Bernie, AOC and Warren? Start focusing ob what solves our HUGE inequality and global issues or think how we can attack the two problems with one intersectional solution (the Green New Deal).
I googled it.

(595 posts)The reThuglickans are not timid or shy and that is a big reason they have been kicking democratic ass.
Nancy has turned the tables and AOC is on their heels unapologetically saying what needs to be said.
We need big dreams and the willingness to fight for them...otherwise we will lose again and that is not an option.

(24,122 posts)and I quote: "She likes Bernie. Okay, so no one is perfect." Looks like YOU made this a Bernie thread. Too funny!!
And I couldn't disagree more with your comment. The fact that AOC likes and supports Bernie, as do most Democrats - indeed, she worked with Bernie under his tutelage - is yet another reason to admire her. So AOC, in fact, IS perfect!!

(4,115 posts)The mindless pundits are already pushing for a "moderate" presidential candidate. When things are this fucked up only a complete sea change can undo it. We've already been through years of trying to accomadate and be reasonable with a bunch of corrupt lunatics. I'm an old man now, but I'll die a lot happier knowing that young leaders like AOC might just save the world. All my life I've been hearing we can't do this or that because it would be too radical. Being moderate against extremists is a sure path to failure. we've already been down that road long enough to know it's a dead end street.
Learn from elders like McConnel, Lindsay Grahan, Grassley? Right, just shut up, hang around long enough to be corrupted by lobbiest, THEN you can play with the old dogs. Gotcha! She and other newcomers where not elected to sit on their asses and not do what they were elected to do in this time of crisis. Our country has no time to sit a wait. The elders have brought us to this point of disaster. New Sherriffs in town do not wait and learn, they lead, go after criminals immediately and work for those that want change now, voted and need help now.

(8,677 posts)I get your point. Some elders are great teachers. I am old, today 67. Retired educator. Sometimes I learned from young minds and different perspectives and new energy. That should be embraced as well. Not sit down and be quiet, the young should have a voice, for their future. We should never be too old to learn and listen to them. I love the passion she brings and the young generation is the promise of a future, they should shape it as they desire to live in it. Elders have put is here. Not so proud of the country I served, as is.
ZapataViva
(60 posts)I turn 65 this year myself. I've met my share of old fools, and I'll take a youngster with good ideas over them anytime.
Traildogbob
(8,677 posts)I remember very many extremely bright young students that even challenged me and actually made me a better teacher by listening to their perspective. I also remember old weathered faculty members that let arrogance totally turn students away from learning and demolished any potential excitement they had to do so. We need to draw them into the mix by allowing them to shape their own future, "guided" by elders that can teach them how to impliment their ideas and avoid corrupt pit falls. We must passionately work hand in hand to take down this deep evil empire of money and corruption. I love AOC and all the new blood. The elders should embrace their ideas and guide them how to get those ideas into law.

(14,164 posts)It's that a she is like Sanders.... In her goals and progressive policies. That is the reason why it's obvious if one supports one of them, one would naturally support the other.
To some of us, what a rep believes in and have battled for, and will battle for is more important than age, skin color, or gender. Even the letter in front of their name is below that in importance.
That's why we admire Sanders, and she admires him. Everything else is faux noise.
Both are gems we should be thankful for.

(25,183 posts)that Toad or anyone else in the mainstream media gives to AOC is a minute that is not going to someone to articulate their vision for America as the next president of the United States.
We have about a half-dozen or so declared candidates who have a shot at the nomination, why isn't Chuckie interviewing one of them? Or is the media waiting for someone they've decided behind closed doors should get the nomination?

I like Bernie but not as a candidate this time around. Time for someone much younger. That takes out Sanders, Biden and Warren this cycle.
We also have to talk about immigration and point out the horrors of the Trump immigration policy and what it is doing to this country. We can't allow Trump to frame this issue. Show the scared and caged children being ripped from the arms of the mother and that thousands will never be reunited. And what is already happening on our southern border. It is enough to send chills down your spine. Here is an Omaha World Herald article that goes straight to the point.

And I also feel that AOC and Nancy Pelosi have upped each others game. Pelosi brings wisdom, institutional knowledge and strategy insight; AOC brings intensity, thoroughness and fearlessness. Result: old and new guard both energized and rowing in the same direction.
