The Pentagon Sends US Troops to Israel. Iran is the Unspoken Target

January 2, 2012. Jerusalem. In one of the most blacked-out stories in America right now, the US military is preparing to send thousands of US troops, along with US Naval anti-missile ships and accompanying support personnel, to Israel.

It took forever to find a second source for confirmation of this story and both relatively mainstream media outlets are in Israel. With one source saying the military deployment and corresponding exercises are to occur in January, the source providing most of the details suggests it will occur later this spring. Calling it not just an “exercise”, but a “deployment”, the Jerusalem Post quotes US Lt.-Gen Frank Gorenc, Commander of the US Third Air Force based in Germany. The US Commander visited Israel two weeks ago to confirm details for “the deployment of several thousand American soldiers to Israel.” In an effort to respond to recent Iranian threats and counter-threats, Israel announced the largest ever missile defense exercise in its history. Now, it’s reported that the US military, including the US Navy, will be stationed throughout Israel, also taking part.

While American troops will be stationed in Israel for an unspecified amount of time, Israeli military personnel will be added to EUCOM in Germany. EUCOM stands for United States European Command.

In preparation for anticipated Iranian missile attacks upon Israel, the US is reportedly bringing its THAAD, Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, and ship-based Aegis ballistic missile systems to Israel. The US forces will join Israeli missile defense systems like the Patriot and Arrow. The deployment comes with “the ultimate goal of establishing joint task forces in the event of a large-scale conflict in the Middle East”.

Only a pending attack on Iran would necesitate this. (IMO it is likely a prologue to an Israeli air strike.)

and it is expected to spark unrest. Iran would not be the first government to start a war to stay in power - Falklands in 82 come immediately to mind.

Why do you think Iran is saber rattling in the Straits of Hormuz?

Well, you're right about "Iran would not be the first government to start a war to stay in power." Yeah, little boots thought his daddy would have won if only he prolonged the iraq war or started another. Of course, it worked so well for him to stay into power, didn't it.

And my thoughts, the global corporate vultures need the evil despot to justify their actions, which is controlling resources.

This has been set up quite nicely under the last regime. I want to know why we got little boot's holdovers instead of those honorable generals and admirals who were forced to step down because they were not "yes" men to the despicable arseholes from the previous administration.

Since these are defensive assets, there is no way that a few thousand US troops in Israel could possibly complicate the situation and lead to direct US involvement in an Israeli attack on Iran. No way that could happen. For sure.

Hamas, Hezbollah, the Mahdi Army?

Proxy warfare is the only way to fight a nuclear armed country - Iran knows Israel will not nuke Tehran because Hezbollah shoots rockets at Israel.

These are not "proxies" in the sense that Iran created any of them. Hamas and Hezbollah grew in the resistance to Israeli occupations and aggressions, and turned to Iran for arms. That doesn't mean Iran runs either.

The Mahdi Army is a laughable example, since it's not a proxy of Iran at all. They oppose Iranian influence in Iraq, and the Iranian proxy if anything is the Badr Brigades, nowadays largely known as the Interior Ministry. Iran has direct influence in the Bagdad government and an uneasy relationship with Moqtada and his Mahdi Army; even when it hosts him to stay on the good side of all Iraqi Shiites.

Wikipedia not bad:

Although Muqtada Al-Sadr has historically had close ties to Iran, he has generally opposed Iranian clerical and political influence in Iraq. Unlike the Al-Hakim family, of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council and many leaders of the Dawa party who fled to Iran following the Persian Gulf War and remained there in exile until the American invasion in 2003 Muqtada al-Sadr and his family remained in Iraq throughout Saddam's rule. The refusal to leave Iraq garnered the Sadr family much support during and after the collapse of Saddam's regime. Early 2006, al-Sadr pledged military support to Iran and other neighboring Islamic countries if they were to be attacked by a foreign nation.[28] Since then, however, Al-Sadr has opposed the Dawa Party, and in March 2008 Prime Minister Maliki ordered a major offensive targeting the Mahdi Army in Basra.[29]

Hezbollah was not formed by Palestinian refugees. It was formed by Lebanese Shi'a. And while Israel's move on the PLO in southern Lebanon fueled their development, their primary goal was and is opposition to the original power sharing agreement with non-Shi'a Muslims and Christians.

Particulary given that Israel left southern Lebanon in 2000.

wouldn't have gotten his job if little boots hadn't proclaimed them part of the axis of evil and proved he could start a war with a country based upon pure bullshite!!!! If Israel provokes, then ahm-what's his name gets voted in. If a more progressive leader is favored by the people, it looks like our actions will squash that. Maybe the corporates want the boogeyman, they can use him-how will they progress without him?
