Do New York prosecutors pose the greatest threat to Donald Trump?

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/feb/09/new-york-southern-district-donald-trump-inauguration-prosecutors
<snip>
For almost two years, Donald Trump has laid down fire at Robert Mueller, calling the special counsel’s work a “witch-hunt”, a partisan charade and now “presidential harassment”.

The bigger threat to Trump, however, may have just walked up and tapped him on the shoulder.

Trump did not tweet about or otherwise acknowledge the revelation on Monday night that prosecutors from the US attorney’s office for the southern district of New York (SDNY) had issued a subpoena seeking a mountain of documents from his inaugural committee.

But former prosecutors and others familiar with the Manhattan-based prosecutors’ work allowed their jaws to drop at the news of the subpoena or – in the case of former SDNY chief Preet Bharara, whom Trump fired early on – their virtual eyes to bulge.

SDNY is looking not only into corruption, but RICO. Nabbing Michael Cohen and Roger Stone is just the tip of the iceberg.

Trump world is headquartered in New York. Avoiding paying both Federal and State Taxes, any crimes committed in New York, are in the jurisdiction of the SDNY and NY Attorney General's office.

They can't be pardoned at that level. I suspect that the states are where the action is. I also think that the current ratf'ing in VA is directly related for that very reason. they need Rs in the Gov. seat to pardon anyone getting nailed in VA. Think Manfort for starters.

I never understood this. What stops tRump from firing enough staff there to render them incapable of pursuing him?

And could be fired at will by the president. The staff attorneys, however, are civil service employees and can be fired only for cause, not at the whim of the president.

should we expect anything to happen from the southern district now?

I'll believe it when I see it, until then, highly doubtful

He is his own worst enemy. Although, I think the State of New York might be an even bigger threat to him than the SDNY. He can't pardon anyone they convict.

If Mueller doesn't find hard evidence, Trump may personally escape the Russian collusion probe with "plausible deniability" that he knew anything about it. Not so with the stuff SDNY is looking into -- he's in that stuff up to his eyeballs.

After decades of corrupt business dealings, Trump could be brought down in New York by New York prosecutors.

You know, there is a huge downside to his addiction for attention. Prosecutors everywhere are probably giving him a second look because he is president, maybe even in other countries. There could be investigations that we haven't even heard of yet. The hatred of Trump is pretty universal, so the motivation is there. This is a stressful time to be alive, but it certainly is fascinating.

What amazes me is that he was able to fool so many people who don't normally trust New Yorkers. I guess that the empire of evil including Fox, AMI and RW radio all helped this along with WikiLeaks, Russia and the rest of them.

Trump represents everything that his base is inclined to hate and resent. Trump is no Huey Long "man of the people" type. He is an in-your-face rich asshole, a real life Richie Rich. I agree the right-wing media propaganda probably deserves most of the credit. Also it appears he was the right candidate at the right time, the base's revenge for eight years of a black man in the White House. Trump is the anti Obama.

at in every state and/or every country that they operate in. If there are funny dealings in one locality, as an college trained auditor, this raises flags in my mind immediately to go after the other filed tax returns and look at them more closely. Makes common sense.

If there is fraud or misdeeds in one place, it's bound to duplicated / replicated in other locations/tax returns/filings of other documents, all completed with misstated facts and amounts. The cover up of such deeds and such also constitutes a crime in covering up the foul deeds too in some jurisdictions too, that is, when they sign such documents, they sign under the claim that they are not committing perjury.

Didn't they have something occur in NY that there was some overlooking of misdeeds by NY personnel? That is, they deliberately overlooked or failed to go after those that are questionable?
