Democratic Content Factory Shareblue Financed By Dark Money

by Andrew Perez and Caleb Ecarma | Feb 8th, 2019, 3:46 pm

A Democratic dark money organization has been financing the liberal news outlet Shareblue.

Shareblue — which has partnered with SiriusXM Radio’s Progress channel — is a project of True Blue Media, a company formed by longtime Hillary Clinton ally David Brock. Brock has built a constellation of influential liberal organizations like the news watchdog group Media Matters and Correct the Record, a pro-Clinton super PAC.

Brock also founded American Bridge 21st Century Foundation, a liberal nonprofit that disclosed in its latest tax return that it sent more than $1.6 million to True Blue Media in 2017. American Bridge said that the transfer was made “pursuant to a simple agreement for future equity.”

“We have no editorial control over Shareblue,” Bradley Beychok, American Bridge’s president, told Mediaite. Shareblue’s chief operating officer, Josh Nerpel, said the nonprofit doesn’t restrict the outlet’s editorial guidelines or coverage.

The American Bridge network is closely aligned with the Democratic Party establishment in Washington. Most notably, American Bridge’s super PAC arm was paid $216,000 by the Democratic National Committee for research work in 2016 and received nearly $50,000 from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in 2018. The organization, which does not disclose its donors, raised approximately $8.5 million in 2017. Three contributors gave at least $1 million.

8. Dan Abrams has been salty ever since he got canned from MSNBC

He truly delights in skewering other media outlets that are not his. I'm okay with Mediaite for the most part, but I always remember that its owner loves to throw bombs at its competitors.

MSNBC and NBC News

After leaving Court TV, Abrams was a general assignment correspondent for NBC News from 1997 to 1999 at which time he was named Chief Legal Correspondent.[6] Abrams then began hosting his own show at MSNBC, and The Abrams Report began in 2001.[7][8] Abrams hosted The Abrams Report until he accepted the lead managerial position at MSNBC.[9] Abrams held the position of General Manager of MSNBC from June 12, 2006 until October 2007.[10]With ratings up 62% during his tenure, Abrams left to concentrate on his 9pm show Live with Dan Abrams, which replaced Scarborough Country due to Joe Scarborough's move to mornings. This show would eventually be revamped and renamed Verdict with Dan Abrams,[11] which aired until August 21, 2008. MSNBC announced on August 19, 2008 that Air America Radio host Rachel Maddow would take over that 9 p.m. time slot beginning September 8, 2008.[12] At that time, Abrams took on additional duties with NBC News including substituting as an anchor on the Today show.

ABC

In March 2011, Abrams left NBC to become the Chief Legal Analyst for ABC News and a substitute anchor on Good Morning America.[3] He is also a regular contributor to The View.[citation needed] ABC announced in June 2013 that Abrams would become the network's Chief Legal Affairs Anchor, as well as an anchor of Nightline.[13] He stepped down as Nightline anchor in December 2014.[citation needed]

A&E

As of October 2016, Abrams hosts the A&E show Live PD, which follows police officers across America as they patrol their communities. Using dash-cam footage, handheld cameras, and fixed rigs, Abrams analyzes each incident as it occurs. He is co-host of A&E'S discussion show Grace vs. Abrams, in which he and legal commentator Nancy Grace debate high-profile crime cases.

Abrams Media

Mediaite

In July 2009, Abrams launched Mediaite, a news site he described as "appreciating the celebrity of the media." Managing Editor Colby Hall noted that it "plays into the vanity of these individuals" without being "over-snarky or mean and nasty."[14] The site combines editorial content with analytic rankings of media personalities. It achieved significant growth immediately after its launch,[15] now has over 7 million unique visitors per month[16] and is regularly in Technorati's list of the top 20 blogs in the country.

11. You're right, "canned" is the wrong word. More like "phased out"

As I remember the goss at the time, Dan and Keith didn't get along but Keith had better ratings and Dan's position at NBC kept getting shifted around until he finally bailed. So, correct. Not canned. Phased out and still salty. Can't say I blame him, really. Olbermann turned out to be quite volatile.

is that "dark money"? Certainly liberals, just as conservatives, have every right and reason to support left leaning news media. Why is this even an issue?

I'd think purveyors of 'dark money' would have bigger fish to fry but what do I know...
