Trump taps anti-feminist Rebecca Kleefisch to lead Women's Suffrage Centennial Commission

Progressives were floored by the announcement that Donald Trump had tapped former Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch to lead the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission. Congress created the commission to preside over commemorative activities and educational efforts celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 1920 ratification of the 19th Amendment, which extended voting rights to women.

During her eight years serving as lieutenant governor in Scott Walker’s administration, Kleefisch amassed a record that embodies anti-feminist views. Kleefisch lost her third race for re-election race last November to former state Rep. Mandela Barnes.

A former broadcast journalist, Kleefisch shocked the LGBT community during her 2010 race to become ex-Gov. Scott Walker’s running mate by ridiculing same-sex marriage on a Christian-right radio show. She described marriage equality as a “slippery slope” that would lead to all sort of bizarre and unanticipated relationships.

Kleefisch said: “At what point would we allow marrying inanimate objects? Could I marry this table or this clock? How about a dog? This is ridiculous.”

Hmm...

Seriously, though, this is shockingly typical of Trump's approach to almost everything. To commemorate a hugely important historical event, he chooses someone who opposes the very thing being commemorated.

While 45 slaves away at executive time somebody obviously works hard compiling a list of who he can appoint to things that will be the exact opposite of what is called for.

How do you get from the state recognizing an artificial union between to consenting adults to marrying inanimate object or again, like conservatives love to focus on, bestiality? Yet, these same idiots see nothing wrong with girls as young as 12 to old men. Marriage is a legal contract which for many people also has religious or spiritual importance, but the fundamental underpinning of the contract is free and understanding consent. A clock, a table, and a dog cannot give consent; and for those parents consenting to their 12 year old to marry it is simply child abuse.

They are either stupid or evil or likely both.

Trump thinks that this piece of shit is a good representation for women's suffrage?

What is the "Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission"?

The Commission was proposed in 2017 by a bill introduced by Tammy Baldwin on April 5th.

https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/senate-bill/847/text?format=txt

Other than it's introduction into the Senate, I see no other action that has been taken (I.E. votes by the Senate/House or any committees to move forward with the creation of the committee. The last action on the bill was that it was "referred to the Judiciary committee". Which leaves me confused.... does this committee even exist?

Well, according to this site, a meeting of the commission was held in December, and that "The US Congress passed legislation to create the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission Act". A confusing statement since there is nothing in the Congressional Record to indicate the commission was ever voted on and/or approved.

https://www.letsrockthecradle.com/lets-rock-the-cradle-who-we-are-why-we-do-what-we-do/

According to the text of the bill, the Committee consists of 14 members, two of which are to be chosen by the President. The OP gave us Rebecca Kleefisch as one of the presidential appointees. The other? None other than Heritage foundation president Kay Coles James

Warning: This link is to the Heritage Foundation. Presented for proof of appointment only, not endorsement of their site:

https://www.heritage.org/press/white-house-names-heritage-president-kay-coles-james-womens-suffrage-centennial-commission

So with James and Kleefisch put on the commission by drumpf, it seems a clear indication that he intends to do whatever he can to undermine the commission's stated purpose "to ensure a suitable observance of the centennial of the passage and ratification of the 19th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States providing for women’s suffrage".

Surprised? I'm not. Fortunately they are only 2 of the committee's 14 members. The rest of the committee IMO should refuse to even seat them or allow them in the meetings. They represent the exact opposite of the ideals the commission is here to commemorate.

My question for DU is......... can you find any record of the commission being authorized by Congress?????????????????? I've searched and can't find any actual vote on the bill.
