As if it were a too on-the-nose movie plot, Abrams Republican opponent in the race for governor was Brian Kemp. As Georgias longtime secretary of state, Kemps presided over the states elections, voting machines and vote tallying. And as a vote suppressor, Kemps record of disenfranchising voters was unmatched.
Kemp wasnt afraid to publicly warn his colleagues about the dangers of black voters. He disproportionately purged black voters from rolls. He threw out black absentee ballots. He used unauditable voting machines and left voter data unsecured. He essentially got to referee his own match.
And in the end, Brian Kemp won...

This has been going on for years. Eventually it will be resolved when the margin of voters voting for the democratic candidate is so great that there is no way the republicans can get away with it.

(18,470 posts)And our government should absolutely use the death penalty to deal with violators. And change the Constitution so such crimes do work some corruption of blood. It has to be made the worst crime one can commit and punished so severely that no one will even want to take one for the team.

The nonprofit group, Coalition for Good Governance, discovered that approximately 127,000 Georgia voters simply did not have a recorded vote for lieutenant governor. Officials claimed that most of these voters simply left that part of their ballot blank. And for some reason, the drop-off (the difference between people who voted and people who skipped one race) was disproportionately Democrat.

(1,773 posts)If not, don't hold your breath waiting for the media to begin demanding his resignation anytime soon like they've done with Gov Northam. After all, an actual act of deliberate racism by a ReThug in the form of discarded minority votes isn't as dramatic or shocking as a 35 year old photo of a someone doing a bad Michael Jackson impression.

(5,751 posts)which is used to establish which precinct you should be in. If you don't have utility bills in your name, maybe because you live with someone, rent a room, move often, etc., it's difficult to establish an address. If your name isn't in the computer, you get a provisional ballot, and those are counted at the county level. I don't know who watches over those folks. I know because I was a precinct manager in Georgia in November, in DeKalb county.
