So, no comment - Hoping we aren't caving and giving Trump some $$ for border barrier??

that's what CNN is saying - something like $1.375 b for border barrier. Now they are saying steel slats ok. No deal on capping beds like we wanted per cnn.

Hmmmmm. Don't understand the strategy. If you give him a dime he'll act like he got $5.7 b.

Hope we get tons of important stuff for doing this. Or hope it's not true ~

ON EDIT: THIS DEAL IS WAY TOO FLUID TO EVEN KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON. MSNBC AND CNN ARE SAYING TWO DIFFERENT THINGS ABOUT FENCING AND BED LIMITS. WE'LL SEE

Because I heard that McConnell ( Repubs) and Dems have offered this BUT Trump has to sign off on it.

Now they can point to his signature when he changes his mind.
If he signs it,

If he doesn't, all fingers point to Trump as the one causing the problem, and causing any shut-down.

he refused to sign, 1.375B instead of 2.whatever it was. That will only construct 55 miles of steel slats. No concrete wall, period.

He also got fewer beds for ICE but a few more than the Dems wanted. That's the compromise Dems used to get the deal struck.

We won this as trump can't go around claiming he got his money for the wall, and if he tries declaring an emergency it will not pass the House and most likely not the Senate either.

no wall money. Same this time but there's allowance for strenthening and repair of existing structures. trump will probably try to use the 1.375B for steel slats but that's why I mentioned it'll only get him 55 miles worth.

As we here all know even the 5.7B he's been asking for is just a piddling amount needed for a two thousand mile wall. He's been bullshitting the country all along and if he had gotten the 5.7B he would've been back for more and more and more if he had gotten away with it. Some estimated that the total cost of a wall was really over 50B.

Nancy and the Dems kicked his ass again.

55 mi of brand new fence like steel slat, and strengthening/repairing 55 MI of existing fence that's in need of repair. Guess we'll find out soon enough. I am guessing it is the former since Dems talking about the associated landowner issues on TX border.

And his followers would have cheered for it and said he delivered what he promised. But he was worried about what Limbaugh and Coulter would say. That’s where our country is today - hate radio hacks and third-world dictators tell our president to jump, and he says “how high?”

I will try not to fret until I hear the deal. But, you are 100% right - he will spin it his way with boldface lies. Although he seemed like he couldn't spin that he couldn't get his wall since two weeks ago.

He's not getting his wall. The only thing in the bill is typical fencing that has been done for years, and a lot less money than what was asked for. It's just typical border security money.

im too worn out to watch this speech. but am i understanding this right that he's giving his wall speech while it's being announced that he only gets a fence?

The lawmakers wouldn’t divulge details of the deal, only saying it had been reached “in principle,” but a Democratic congressional aide briefed on the matter said the committee has agreed to tuck away $1.375 billion for the construction of 55 miles of “bollard fencing” — “no wall” — while reducing the number of detention beds at the disposal of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency by 17.4%, from 49,057 to 40,520.

based on Bush and Obama efforts, landowners were paid $300k per mile. Guess that's factored in.

Wish they would insure it's open bid on supplies and materials - just to make sure he doesn't go with the Canadian supplier that manufactures steel slats and is 1/2 owned by Russians.

I think a shutdown would get ugly fast with air travel shut down pretty fast. We've seen reports of sick outs today.

Not sure what will happen immediately. The reduction in detention beds will either be ignored and we'll have to fight in court or we'll go through another hopefully short shutdown on the way to another CR.

No matter what's in the bill, the wall, AKA "brown people are coming" will be one of their campaign issues in 2020.

Somehow he got NEW wall/barrier money. (Albeit a pawdry 55 miles) And there will be more beds. Last time NO new wall money.

Bright side, govt won't shut down. But that was what repukes wanted too - no shutdown - which should have given us more leverage, no?

If I am missing what we got out of it and how this was a brilliant negotiation...I will totally stand corrected.
