Trump calls on Omar to resign over remarks condemned as anti-Semitic

Trump on Tuesday called on Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) to resign for comments on Israel that were criticized as anti-Semitic.

“I think she should either resign from Congress or she should certainly resign from the House Foreign Affairs Committee,” Trump said of the freshman lawmaker.

Omar apologized on Monday for suggesting that U.S. support for a Jewish state is the result of money flowing from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), an influential pro-Israel lobbying group.

The comments were quickly condemned by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other Democratic leaders. But House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told Roll Call that Omar would not be stripped of her committee assignments.

Donald Trump has no authority - legal, moral, or by virtue of his office - to call on anyone anywhere to resign, clean up their act, or anything else.

45 admires when people never say they are sorry and never admit they were wrong. She owes the MAGA's nothing. I understand her colleagues who are Jewish have addressed it with her directly. At this point - it's more important to me that she apologizes to Josh Gottheimer (not my congressman - but one from New Jersey) than it is to Trump Maggots.

well here there is an entire speech, in front of Jews no less. https://www.jta.org/2015/12/04/politics/five-takeaways-from-the-republican-jewish-coalitions-presidential-forum

The real estate billionaire said he wasn’t likely to get support from the RJC crowd — because he was too rich to be bought.

“I know why you’re not going to support me. You’re not going to support me because I don’t want your money,” he said.

He also complimented the room, saying the negotiating skills of anyone in it outclassed Team Obama after the Iran nuclear deal.

“This room negotiates deals,” he said. “Perhaps more than any room I’ve ever spoken to.”

The same man who has made crude anti-Semitic jokes, used an anti-Semitic trope to smear Hillary, and who has attacked other minorities and defended neo-Nazis.

Omar made a mistake - what she said did in fact evoke anti-Semitic stereotypes - but she apologized, and she herself represents a minority group in the US who has been targeted by the majority, and by the Trump administration specifically. He is the LAST person in the world who has the right to call for her resignation.

Now if he were to make the offer to resign in light of his own history of anti-Semitism and race baiting, sure, then we might have to think about it.

Until then he can take a lollipop and suck on it.
