I think it is important to remember the proper lenses through which to view the decisions trump makes on everything - legislation, key people in his administration - it becomes easy to forget a few key things.
It seems the pundits, and many people, forget the election, forget the Mueller probe and simply ask "what's in it for trump". I think that is too easy - that would be the question to ask if the idiot were NOT compromised.
We really need to remember a few other important questions - "what's in it for the uber wealthy" for example.
Another - "what's in it for today's republican party - the "drown government in a bathtub" party. Of course they can't govern - they hate government.
but perhaps the most dangerous, most serious question that we need to ask is "what's in it for Putin"
If we were to lay out a scenario for the decline of America and our systems, a compromised trump and republican party as we are seeing it is exactly what we would come up with. We forget this at our peril.

(3,010 posts)If you start from the perspective that dismantling our institutions IS the objective, then his actions ALWAYS make sense. Sometimes, it enriches him personally, sometimes it aligns with the white nationalists, sometimes it aligns with the hard christian right....but it ALWAYS makes sense in the context of Putin's objective: to bring down the United States.
We are watching this in real time and the people we need most to understand this (our leaders and the media) are still seeming befuddled.

(3,010 posts)But, when I hear Harry Reid say he used to be afraid for the country when trump was elected, but now is afraid for the world, I think we're doomed. He knows the whole story and he's fearful. Then I learned today that newly confirmed AG William Barr's son-in-law is joining the president's legal team...OMG, the corruption is deep.
mcconnell: wife is cabinet member
retired justice kennedy: son was executive at deutsche bank
ag barr: son-in-law is president's lawyer
Every day, I look for a hopeful sign. This has been a very hard 3 years for the US. (Including the campaign here)

(24,262 posts)is that those who profess to hate the government, say it is the problem and preach that it doesn't work, spend millions on campaigns to get the job of being in charge of it. And the father of this is Ronald Reagan.
Trump is just Reagan on steroids.
