POTUS just now, on declaring a national emergency: "I could do the wall over a much longer period of time... I didn't need to do this." That's plaintiffs' Exhibit A.

Then Mara Liasson was on. Granted some of this comes from the White House but she made two interesting points:
1. The administration doesn't think Trump will suffer any politic fallout from the shutdown.
and then this...
2. For his base the wall is is vital and they take it very literally. According to her sources in the White House/Trumpians they don't think he can get re-elected if he doesn't get the wall.

like we could use a little wall in areas, more fence in others, more border patrol here and there, not much we would object to. No one really wants open borders. I guess the wall nuts helped get Trump elected. All that wall chanting and other hoo-ha is all about stoking racism.
