(13,542 posts)was smoking away. People in hospital rooms could ask for the nurse to bring them an ashtray, and they always did.
It was very common then. My how times have changed.

(25,841 posts)Oddly enough, respiratory therapists, even recently, tend to be smokers.
My younger brother was one, and a heavy smoker. The smoking has definitely taken its toll on him.
When you go to high school reunions, starting at about the 30th, it becomes more and more obvious who the smokers are, just by their appearance. And how much sooner they tend to die.
