General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI don't know if trolls started this but we need to be wary. Remember Nancy Pelosi
was the enemy of the left in the year before the 2018 elections?
She is amazing. She was amazing before. The right wing trolls nitpicking happened to democratic perceptions in the middle and we almost jettisoned her. So too will many of our Democratic nominees be so alienated. Don't fall for the ridiculous. If we let the GOP nitpick then they will have picked who our 2020 nominee is by the time it is over.

(118,499 posts)saying with Nancy it was GOP trolls. And so many fell for it. Expect it during the Democratic nomination race. Don't fall for it. Maybe it was GOP trolls with this hot sauce thing or maybe not. Be wary of those who would fight a candidate without referencing their character, their talents or their policy positions. I've seen psychopaths use nitpicking to re-create the perceptions of people they want to control. It is a common technique with abusers, misogynists or harrassers. Nitpicking to control the perceptions of a group (democrats). Watch for it.

it alienates democrats from their great candidates and turns into a meme - the GOP will be happy. We should call it astroturf nit-picketing.

(11,949 posts)I cant imagine a dinner with greens, at home or out, without a bottle of peppers in vinegar or at least a bottle of hot sauce on the table.

(16,850 posts)The only shameful thing about the Harris "hot sauce" incident is that she used Texas Pete, lol!! Can't have greens without hot sauce though!
GulfCoast66
(11,949 posts)Texas Petes? If nothing else I would use it! But sport peppers in vinegar with a little sugar is the classic and what you find on all rural Southern tables. Mainly in homes, not restaurants.
If not that at least give me Tabasco or even Crystal. But my Louisiana roots are showings!
Docreed2003
(16,850 posts)That little jar of peppers in vinegar is a must!
I've heard Rodney Scott's is incredible, although I readily admit to being biased toward Memphis BBQ rather than Carolina, but I love it all. Harris has given me motivation to make a road trip!
GulfCoast66
(11,949 posts)But after 32 years in Florida I know these South East Southerns are all about collards. Which I love but not like mustard greens.
Hot sauce here is more common than pepper sauce but both are often available.
Harris is from California but with Jamaican heritage. They have a real greens tradition there. Can recall the name of the greens but is served very hot.

(128,506 posts)Grew up with Crystal in my household here in Philly. Now I have 3 different mainstream brands to use depending on what I make (Crystal, Frank's, Louisiana).

(7,395 posts)I probably have at least seven varieties of hot sauce on hand, but the "heavier" stuff I don't use on greens.

(5,334 posts)Surely Trolls can do a lot better?
Not eating enough vegetables myself, discovered some semi hot Habanero sauce makes them more palatable.
Discovered this by myself, living far, far away in Australia.
Go Kamala, hot sauce on your greens? I'd vote for you if I could, just because of this!
Come on Trolls, lift your game! Where is the complaints about wearing the wrong colour clothes, shade of makeup, not treating Entitled White Male Fossils with the respect they think they deserve, etc?

(32,606 posts)eating style because she has good hair. Thank god she has great hair but they must find something.
Same as Hillary. She has good hair so they went after her hot sauce use.
I have noticed that Kamala usually wears pants. Pretty sure that will become an issue at some point.

(118,499 posts)You are not saying that some hair is better than others yourself are you?
DURHAM D
(32,606 posts)Your second question is muddled. But, both Kamala and Hillary have better hair than I do. It is a thing.

(11,949 posts)Next they will try attacking her for eating grits in the south. Clearly a bunch of New Englanders! From my experience up there they still think salt and pepper are the only appropriate spices. Heavy on the salt, light on the pepper!

(2,496 posts)For putting Dijon mustard on his hamburger. Can't find any dirt so they nitpick about nothing. And I won't eat greens any other way. I prefer a turnip/mustard mix over collards though. Something about that bitter taste just does it for me.

And, FWIW, I'm white, and I put hot sauce on my greens, too. Can't eat 'em without it.
