The political, punditry is really into this.
Every time someone else enters the race, the talk is about lane.
Are they very liberal, liberal, moderate, etc.
So, playing along.
Lets assume these unannounced Dems all get in.
Swalwell, Hickenlooper, Brown, Sanders, Biden.
(also assuming Beto and Bloomberg and Bennett dont run).
Add them to the announced Dems, are these the lanes?
Most liberal: Sanders, Warren
Liberal: Harris, Buttigieg, Swalwell, Brown, Klobuchar, Castro, Gillibrand
Moderate: Hickenlooper, Biden, Gabbard , Booker

(23,061 posts)She's a pretend Dem whos really a republican but is Hawaiian so has to run as a Democrat. She should not be considered as part of the pack since RT loves her so much.

(7,580 posts)In the case of the GOP it was clearly "extreme wacko". Is this just "white people" thing or does it play across party lines.

(38,958 posts)The narrative is designed to keep everyone worked up, agitated and distracted, worried that "their" candidate is up or down according to the polling and latest whatever. It is rarely if ever a discussion of the issues. It is offers a wide variety of what-ifs, conjecture and high pitched noise.
It goes like this......
This week She is up until there is a hiccup of some small issue blown way out of proportion in the Breathless 24/7 Cable Noise Infotainment. Next Week He's up and doing well in some obscure poll with 12 people and a cat responding, but Oh Noes, by week end a new face has entered the run and all the oxygen is taken out of the room. Followed by the discovery that as a child the fresh face pushed another kid in the hall way in grammar school so that will take several news cycles between the pharmaceutical ads to discuss. Week 4 She will make a strong speech and return to the top of the polling, but will it be enough to overcome the whispered stories of her 3rd cousin 14 times removed being addicted to Snickers Bars? In the meantime He will get tongue tied during an interview having not had enough sleep and there will be questions of his age and can he really serve? The Fresh Face will suddenly soar to the top on word of a fundraiser far exceeding its goals of $12.47.
Rinse and repeat but be sure to allow time for more ads for drugs we never knew we needed and the anchors hawking their latest books on The Crisis in the Media.

(10,862 posts)I do think there is a little bit to it when it comes to a few candidates.
I see Warren and Sanders being the most similar on their policy positions.
Both from the Northeast. Both very strong and forceful in their delivery.
I think they will appeal to the same pool of voters.

(38,958 posts)I am not looking to or accepting any characterization of any of the candidates from Cable Infotainment and I would hope that others see CNN, MSNBC and certainly Fox for what they are Infotainment which does occasionally brush up against journalism, but rarely and only if there isn't any talking head spouting some opinion to fill the air time between drug ads.
I have turned the lot of them off and am still very much informed along with having lower blood pressure.

(10,862 posts)Because of her being a tough prosecutor, I think she moves down from Warren and Sanders.
She might also equivocate on ending private insurance for Medicare for all like the other two.
And being a self described Democratic Socialist, Media always pegs Sanders as most liberal.

(5,801 posts)Wouldnt it be great if we could just stick facts into those perceptions?
Thats my plan anyway.

(10,862 posts)Many in the media have gone along or even been complicit.
Therefore, sadly, sometimes perception is reality .

(31,780 posts)Uh - Warren was a Republican and held strong to those beliefs when Kamala and I were young black women in the 1990's. IE Contract on America - or as Pat Buchanan has admitted - Contract on Black Women Making them America's boogeyman.
And - Sanders doesn't have the gun legislation background or environmental background to be die hard liberal. Economically progressive - yes? But he fails in that lane when we look at his almost 40 year political career.
