CHICAGO (Reuters) - Activists in Washington, Chicago and dozens of other U.S. cities protested on Mondays Presidents Day holiday against President Donald Trumps declaration of a national emergency to secure funding for a U.S.-Mexico border wall ...
Cheryl Krugel-Lee, a 32-year-old student, said she brought her 4-year-old daughter to the protest in freezing weather to set an example for her.
This was a power grab by the Trump administration, and its immoral and illegal, Krugel-Lee said.
Organizers said 250 events were planned, including in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco ...

... Assembling in front of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcements downtown offices, the protesters they numbered more than 100 around noon cheered when Sean Young, the legal director for the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia, announced the ACLU would file a lawsuit seeking to block Trumps actions this week.
More than 240 similar protests involving 10,000 demonstrators were planned for locations across the nation on Presidents Day, according to the liberal political group MoveOn.org.
The presidents declaration last week of a fake national emergency to build his childish medieval wall threatens the rule of law and makes our country look more like a tinpot dictatorship than an actual republic, said Young, wielding a bullhorn.
Basically, the president is throwing a temper tantrum because Congress and the American people wont give him what he wants, Young said. But thats not how the checks and balances of the U.S. Constitution work ...

It's a national day of protest. That's why we're out here. It's Presidents Day and as a president in this area he's failing, Roanoke resident Robin Barnhill said.
This latest announcement that he made about declaring the national emergency was just another ploy, a trick to get what he wants, and that's more money for this border wall that's not going to make a difference, Roanoke resident Ellen Valentine said.
There were hundreds of protests like these across the nation Monday, including in Washington, where activists gathered in front of the White House ...

... They're now standing in front of Senator Mike Braun's office to make that point very clear.
"Money is going to start being converted soon for the project at the border, and its going to be taken away from schools and hospitals. And if we dont show up now, as soon as we can and make our voice heard, then theres only going to be more damage, said Nate Levin-Aspenson, Steering committee member.
WSBT reached out to Senator Braun multiple times, but he did not return our call.

... Colorado will join California in filing a lawsuit against the emergency declaration.
In a joint statement Monday, Gov. Jared Polis and Attorney General Phil Weiser said they decided to join the effort in part because tens of millions of dollars could be diverted from military construction projects in Colorado to build a border wall. The two Democrats also said the lawsuit will defend the rule of law.
The declaration shifts billions of dollars from military construction to the border ...
