Part of Jim Jordan's (R-OH) freedom caucus costume is his refusal to wear a jacket. I understand how he wants his macho-obsessed base to marvel at his ripped wrestling coach body. But it was my understanding that the House of Representatives has a dress code that requires male representatives to wear a suit jacket and a neck tie.
Am I wrong about this?

(10,260 posts)most of us don't have to wear a jacket to work and I think it's a dumb rule. But wear one for Voting Days, have casual Fridays like everyone else, and fuck off with the Fake Protest ...nobody cares what you wear to work as long as you're working for us.
He's NOT, so he can fuck off, afaic
(On Edit) Speaker Pelosi can show up in jammies and bunny slippers, and as long as she's gonna still kick trump in the balls once a week with them, I could give a shit less.
Or, just have uniforms. Button-up black kakhi shirt and slacks. Everybody wears the same thing and wear your name tag. Flair optional, minus the corporations you took money from; that logo patch you HAVE TO wear.
Because fuck you, THATS WHY.

(812 posts)This is why one has to wear jackets, ties, shoes and socks in a court room as well.
I hope Ms. Pelosi enforces the rule or holds him in contempt.
I remember that the house actually passed a resolution during a heat wave some 25 years ago, relaxing the jacket and tie rule until the heat wave was over. (IIRC)

(10,260 posts)Is about respecting the fact that the institution works FOR US. They can raise taxes on millionares in bunny slippers, afaic.

(7,947 posts)And we had to wear blazers over white blouses. The men had to wear suits. I don't know why Congresspersons making $174K a year should make every day casual Friday.
And Pelosi should always wear scarlet. And shades.

(14,782 posts)Unfortunately I cannot answer your question off the top of my head, I do not know (yet).
I would hope that the House does NOT have such a rule (which, given history, means it probably does). There are many formal modes of dress from various cultures which are incongruous, if not physically incompatible, with a jacket and tie.
