(4,291 posts)My first instinct is to say "put a brick or large rock in the handbag first." But,...
Fast-forward to recent counter-demonstrations here, where violence against white-nationalists, neo-Nazis and others gets twisted around, with the counter-protesters being labeled as AntiFa and worse. Striking out in rage lowers you to their level and makes it that much harder to achieve victory.

Our main fight is against rightwing propaganda and the rightwing lying media machine.

I call it "enough now"!
I am not taking this "civil war" crap without pushing back!
Fuck these Nazi morons!
They want a fight?
I don't think they've thought through what it means to start a fight with smart people!

(90,565 posts)Great progress had been made in civil rights, women's rights, and science. The pathetic remnants of the troglodyte adherents of slavery and naziism banished to dank caves out of the light of common day, still there but hardly to be reckoned with on a large scale.
Then the GOP went completely toxic, the Voting Rights Act was overturned, and we got Trump.
Albert Camus' "The Plague" comes to mind: the great evil overcome, but not eradicated for all time; still lingering in overlooked and forgotten corners, waiting to break out again.

(357 posts)Apparently for Republicans and Trump it is very hard. For folks like Danura Danielson, its easy.

"Some would call it crazy, others would say it's stupid, but there's no question that Ginger Littleton's attempt to hinder a gunman's attack on her co-workers by hitting him her purse was downright brave.
When Clay Duke, a 56-year-old resident of Panama City, Fla., pulled a gun at a school board meeting Tuesday afternoon, he ordered Littleton and a few other women to leave the room. But she didn't feel she could leave her fellow board members at Duke's mercy: A surveillance video shows her sneaking back into the room and attempting to knock the gun out of Duke's hand with a swat of her purse.
"I had a choice. Leaving and feeling that something bad was about to happen, and living with myself if something did, and I turned back ... and they were all sitting there lined up like ... sitting ducks. I could either walk away thinking something bad was going to happen and try to live with myself or I could try to do something to divert and delay. My bag was what I had,"Littleton told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos." (More)

(48,966 posts)Sure, there are "incels" who are nazis like there are bakers and candle-stick makers who are incels. But "often refer to themselves as incels"?
I thought I had missed something obvious in the culture, so I got curious to try to repair the gap in my cultural understanding.
