I of course voted for Hillary in the General Election.
I will support the Democratic Nominee no matter who it turns out to be.
Check in if you did the same last time.
Or don't, I'm not your boss or your mom and can't tell you what to do. I was just looking to see how many Bernie supporters weren't supporting him this go round.

(1,568 posts)To people with jobs and children. I have yet to vote in a primary.
That said my daughter is now 18 and will likely try to vote in the caucus for Bernie. Call me ageist but I want younger, fresh meat that can do eight years. I love Bernie and Biden. But nope.

(34,103 posts)last time. I think our caucus has tried very hard to move forward but it is one step forward and 5 steps back. Still, it is better than it was 15 years ago.
If Bernie is still in I will likely give him my primary. I really want him to continue what he has been doing but since he is running I need to think about it so I start optimistic but there is a long way to go and I do need to see what the deal is with his taxes. That bothers me a lot. We need to know this.

(28,333 posts)I gave my heart and soul to supporting Hillary, but I would be terrified to do it again. We need a fresh, new start after this to win, not re-runs. I LOVE Joe Biden, but I hope he will put his considerable popularity and energy into backing one of our great Democratic candidates like Harris.

(17,276 posts)Right now I like Klobuchar, but I also think the ideal candidate would be a governor of a state, not a senator.

(32,610 posts)I believe that's the point. Our own Democratic candidates deserve to be considered first and foremost.

There is a lot of work that will need to get done outside of the presidency. I'm not saying he wouldn't be a good president or anything but he's not going to get the plurality of the Democratic vote. Then because of the cult of personality he has with a good chunk of his "base. There is the possibility for more infighting.
We don't need that, and if he was being real he'd lay off being president and keep on putting up the good fight on the ground like he's been doing. However, he's already showed us that he doesn't roll like that.
Which is why, unless he somehow gets the Democratic nod, I can't support him again in the primaries.

(19,001 posts)Same thing I did last time. Bernie and Hillary were 2 sides of the same coin, they were very closely aligned on almost every issue. I voted for Bernie, but supported and campaigned for Hillary in the GE. I love the field we have so far!
No problem with Bernie last time nor this time around. Now it's a fact that the Russian Troll farms got their messages about Hillary started with Bernie supporters, that cannot be ignored and should be revisited because I don't think people are admitting they got duped. But the Russian Troll farms are going to attack whoever the Dem front runner is this time around, we need to be aware and ready.

(19,001 posts)Admitting you fell for it is really hard to do. I have college educated really progressive friends who I've shown literal proof to that posts they were sharing and spreading were Russian generated fake stories and they still cannot accept it.
Propaganda is so powerful. I remember Bernie fans were posting financials from the Clinton Foundation with messages of, "look, they give a pittance in grants and spend 90% of their money running the foundation!!! So Crooked!!!" You could share with them the fact that the Clinton Foundation spends its money on running itself because unlike some charitable foundations they don't just donate their money to causes they like, but they actually perform the charity work themselves. The Clinton Foundation employs doctors, researchers, and a whole host of workers who actually fly AIDS drugs to foreign countries, set up hospitals, and administer the life saving drugs to the afflicted. That's where their money goes. It's an A rated charity who has helped millions of poor people globally. That's easy to show, but even when you do people still won't let go.
I don't know how to fight Russian propaganda. I'm not sure anyone really knows how.

My favorite at the moment is Kamala Harris. I think she gives off the same calm and control vibe as Obama.

(4,131 posts)And I will not rule out voting for Bernie in the primary. I will say that his competition is fierce and I am far less likely to vote for him in the primary this time around.

(12,132 posts)I was a victim of the anti-Hillary propaganda. I still proudly voted for her in the General (by then I had been better educated) but if I hadn't been such an easy mark and kind of stupid, I would have voted for her in the primary too.
This time around I'm a fan of several of the already-announced candidates (Harris and Klobuchar are probably top two right now) and I liked what I heard this morning on NPR from Mayor Pete.

I'm not voting for Bernie in the 2020 primary. If he's the Democratic candidate I'll vote for him. But the thrill is long gone.

(23,078 posts)His refusal to release his tax returns, his not caring enough to follow up on male staff member(s) harassing females with the campaign, his support for the NRA, all of these and more are the reasons I won't vote for him this time. I also don't like how Russia used him to help drumpf and he didn't call them out on it. I also don't like how he changed to Dem to run for president, then when he lost switched back to Democratic Socialist and now is switching again. It seems like he has zero center, just an arrogance about winning. I hope Dems have gotten smarter and he's not one of the top 2-3 people running for the Democratic party's nomination.

(1,093 posts)And I'll vote for him in the general election if he, by some miracle, wins the nomination.
I've liked him since the Air America days when I'd listen to Brunch with Bernie on Thom Hartman's show.
I do think economic opportunity is a fundamental issue that relates to many of the other problems facing this country.
But I do not support his campaign this time around. I think we have strong newer voices, and I wish Bernie would help support them rather than tilting at windmills.

(29,149 posts)But, as last time, whoever gets the nomination will get my vote in the general.

(7,808 posts)My reason is the one that covers pretty much every action and circumstance: It seemed like a good idea at the time.
Now, I think that Bernie's presidential aspiration time as passed. Not that he should stay quiet because his is a valuable voice against rethugism and tRumpism. He's like the "rents are too damn high" guy. Not a candidate to win, but a voice on issues that hurt real people.
I won't make my decision until next year when my state hold its caucus (or, please please please a primary*). And my choice will be a longstanding member of the Democratic Party.
* Nevada holds caucuses. Last time, the caucus was held in a stuffy room with metal folding chairs a couple few days after I took a tumble down the stairs (not hurt, just banged up a bit). It hurt to sit, it hurt to stand, and it hurt to mosey around the room for hours while breathing air that didn't seem to have oxygen, but was composed of the collective breath of everyone else there.

(63,221 posts)I was a Bernie supporter in the 2016 Primary. Voted for Hillary in the General. I will never vote for Bernie again. I have a story about him from when I lived in Burlington for a year after college, but nobody believed me and I was viciously attacked by the Bernie crowd for spreading false rumors. Even after that, I still voted for him, but he is not the great guy that everyone thinks he is.

(2,227 posts)Since there were only two choices I did vote for him in the primary, but I lived in NYC and it didn't affect anything.
I was put-off by how nasty he got when criticizing Hillary. That certainly didn't help her in the general. He may have supported her in the end, but I think many of his supporters were so mad by that point, due to his rhetoric, they didn't vote.
With so many more options available this time I don't think he has a chance.
Being older, I want someone younger. That also eliminates Biden.
I think that the voters who are going to save us are the new ones, angry first timers, primarily the younger voters, who may feel that anyone from the establishment is just more of the same. I agree.

(707 posts)Im not going to be nit picking any candidate this year. We do too much of that I just want someone who will win! I dont care if they are too far left or middle man or woman. I just want the nightmare to end. Be careful of letting anyone drag you too far off in the weeds over any issue United we stand divided we fall.

(14,296 posts)For one thing, he sounds like a broken record. But Im also wistful about what could have been. I think Bernie would have beaten Trump. If Biden had gotten in, he would have beaten everyone. So Im leaning Biden now. I am pleased that at least some of Bernies ideas are going to be debated no Bernie necessary.
We truly have an embarrassment of riches with all the other good candidates. I just hope we dont hamstring each other. Unity is essential going into the general election.

(768 posts). . . I will never forget all those stories David Sirota, who never does a thing without Bernie's say so, published in the International Times about Hillary's emails . . . in OCTOBER of 2016. Sirota is Bernie's journalistic henchman. Just search his stories online. LOTS of attacks on Democatic opponents of Bernie. No stories on Bernie's considerable ethical and electability problems.

(16,843 posts)I'm waiting for my candidate to announce. If he doesn't get in, I'm looking at Sherrod Brown and Elizabeth Warren. I'm not voting for anyone in their 70s unless they're the nominee.
