Already, the Democratic Primary Field of Candidates Is Crowded

There's a candidate for everyone, it seems, who has already thrown a hat into the ring. What does that mean? I think it may mean that nobody is going to become a clear leader right from the start. We're still waiting for Joe Biden to join the crowd, which he may well do, early this time, rather than late in the race.

This will be for the 2020 general election. It's not 2016 any longer. This is a very different election from 2016. This time, we have a person who is possibly the worst President in history sitting in the White House. This time, we have a field of men and woman trying to stand out in the primary race who are all competent, strong Democrats. There will probably be a couple or three more to come.

Frankly, I think we should let the candidates make their points to the public for a while. Then, we can start dividing up DU by candidate preference. Right now, we don't have much of a clue as to how they will sort themselves out. Nor do we know how the public is going to work out who they prefer.

One thing, though, is certain: Filtering out the leaders from a field of a dozen or more potential nominees is going to take a while. I suggest we not jump on any bandwagons yet. The wheels will come off off some of them and leave them stopped along the road. Let's give them all time to make their cases.

2020! Not 2016!

We need to keep that in mind, as well as the need to regain control of Congress in a way that allows our next Democratic President to get stuff done, and quickly.

2020 may be one of the most important elections in recent history. Let's not screw this one up.

Kinda makes me want a two step primary. Some sort of "down select" in September to say 5 candidates, and then have the "nominating" primary next year.
