The failure of his sons new hotel chains hints at financial issues.

President Donald Trumps sons announced Thursday that they were shelving plans to open two chains of lower-end hotels and motels, blaming Democrats and journalists on their failure to get the new brands off the ground. But theres a likelier explanation for their struggles, and it has to do with their dad.
Its been two and a half years since the Trump sons trademarked the names Scion and American Ideal for the new hotel chains. With Thursdays announcement, they have nothing to show for the once-ballyhooed expansion of the Trump empire. We live in a climate where everything will be used against us, whether by the fake news or by Democrats who are only interested in presidential harassment and wasting everyones time, barraging us with nonsense letters Eric Trump said in a bitter statement to the New York Times. ... The Trumps had announced only one franchisee, to operate four locations of the new hotels. According to the New York Times, they had perhaps a dozen additional deals that had not been publicized.
Despite Eric Trumps protests, it seems unlikely that the planned chains were ever going to thrive. One hotel industry expert told Mother Jones that for chains like Scion and American Idealwhich were probably going to rent rooms in the $100 to $150 range, as opposed to $450 and up in Trumps swankier locationsto be successful, they have to operate at scale. Chains like these create business through dozens or hundreds of locations that use a loyalty points system and central booking. While Trumps high-end hotels bank on their uniqueness, excellent service, or lavish luxury, the market for the lower-end chains is dominated by brand loyalty.
Rather than presidential harassment or fake news, there are plenty of business reasons for franchisees to avoid the Trump brandsmainly the association with President Trump. When it comes to brand loyalty, the Trump name was probably a killer for anyone who wanted to open a new hotel. ... Hes the president and hes very polarizing, says Jan A. deRoos, a professor of hotel finance and real estate at Cornell Universitys School of Hotel Administration. So if you have a chance to put a brand on your hotel and a good half of the population wont stay there because they dont like him, or you could put something benign on it like a Best Western, its an incredibly easy decision.

(16,075 posts)The majority of the money he's trying to gather for his "wall", will end up in an offshore account! Think about it, if 8 billion dollars can be lost by the US military in Iraq...a few billion can be redirected by Mr. Mulvaney!!!
Once Trump has that cash, he'll find a nice place with no extradition, and leave his two sons high and dry...he might even leave his daughter/wife behind as well!

(15,543 posts)He's already pissed on all 17 of our US Intelligence Agencies - mostly staffed by veterans of honor - and he's has been pissing away at our POWs, veterans, admirals and generals. He's doing a damn lot to make America weak, and dismantling the feeble defense we had against russian and chinese interference in our elections. It's a total KGOP-republican fascist crotch grab on America.
So sucking money out of the Army to fill offshore accounts would be GROOVY GRAVY for KGOP republican grifter & casino hustler Dirty Donny, and his darkside boyfriend, Pooty Poot.

(42,552 posts)There's about 65% of the country that would crawl over broken glass to stay anywhere but there. There may be enough people wanting to curry favor with Donald to keep business at his clubs and D.C. hotel booming for now, but there are not enough Trump lovers left to keep a national chain of mid-priced hotels going very long.

(10,127 posts)They are seriously the shittiest business people on the planet. Their mission in life has been to be obnoxious publicity hounds, and are constantly caught up in one mishap or the other. Now it's somebody else's fault. Republicans don't travel or stay at hotels I guess. Only Dems and Journalists.
It's the "thanks Obama" of the times. They are clowns.
