Let me attempt to put McCabe's assertions into perspective

Andrew McCabe has stated that Rod Rosenstein explored the possibility of wearing a wire into the Oval Office and the use of the 25th amendment. The Trumpists immediately started to declare a coup by the "deep state". But, let's look at the evidence to determine exactly what was most likely to have occurred.

Trump and his minions were lying about contacts with Russians. The intelligence agencies had already determined that the Russians hacked and disseminated stolen and false information during the 2016 election in behalf of Trump. Flynn, Manafort, Gates, Popodoupolis, Stone, Trump Jr., Kushner, the list is endless. Then, Trump, after trying to interfere in the Flynn investigation, fires Comey. Trump invites two high ranking Russian diplomats into the fucking Oval Office, excludes the American press, and gleefully claims that the Russian thing is over because he fired Comey 12 hours earlier. Oh, and by the way, Trump discloses classified information to the Russians. So, let's see, intelligence officers were suspicious at this point? Who wouldn't be.

The people in charge of the justice department and the FBI were exploring the 25th amendment. These people are not stupid. They know that it is harder to remove a president through the 25th than through impeachment. In order to accomplish the president's removal by the use of the 25th, you need the approval of the Vice-President and a majority of the cabinet. But that's not all, you then need a two thirds vote in BOTH the House and the Senate. This could only be accomplished if the evidence was so overwhelming and convincing that even a Trump supporter from West Virginia with one tooth would have to agree. The agencies thought the evidence was (and is) that convincing.

ensure the integrity of all these investigations to make certain that they hold up in court according to law. I haven't seen the Pelley interview yet but I did catch two yesterday with Lawrence O'Donnell and Stephen Colbert. Both are entirely worth watching and very informative and will answer your question in full, especially on Colbert.
