The Latest: Trump takes credit for blocking IS woman from US

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Latest on the Alabama woman who left home to join the Islamic State group in Syria and now wants to return to the U.S. with her child (all times local):

4:30 p.m.

President Donald Trump is taking credit for the State Department’s announcement Wednesday that an Alabama woman who joined the Islamic State group in Syria will not be allowed to re-enter the U.S.

Trump tweets: “I have instructed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and he fully agrees, not to allow Hoda Muthana back into the Country!”

Pompeo announced on Wednesday that Muthana won’t be allowed to enter the country with her toddler son because she is not an American citizen, a claim that was challenged by her lawyer.

Muthana is now in a refugee camp in Syria along with others who fled the Islamic State, and says she made a mistake in joining the group.

Pompeo said she has no “legal basis” to claim American citizenship. But her lawyer says the administration’s position is based on a “complicated” interpretation of immigration law.

That this person is not a US citizen, does not have a valid Passport, nor papers allowing her back into the country.

A sad situation.

This makes me sick....

She needs support and love and "deprogramming". Her son needs to have support and love and family and a future ahead of him with education and to be a citizen of the US - maybe to grow up and see and love what America stands for and to be even someone who can be a bridge for understanding and educating others in the future.

In a refugee camp, she will not survive and she and her son will either die or be turned against the US....

Sickening....

Is when an adult runs off to join a terror organization, provides aid and support to their fighters and proudly broadcasts their hatred of America but suddenly wants to be American again when the organization collapses.

Just wondering....

Because she did what she did and was a mixed up young adult and was brainwashed from what is a cult.....

Punish her? Ok....how about instead we bring her back and try her for her "crimes"....

What crime did her child commit? What do you think happens next if they are left in the refugee camp? What do you think will happen to her and to her son?

How do you feel about people in their 20's who commit crimes - lock them up and throw away the key? Or do you believe in 2nd chances and the opportunity to have learning moments and make something positive out of something fucked up?

Honestly, this will probably get me killed. I feel a ton of empathy for her son and what she's probably gone through. But she joined ISIS. WTF?????? I don't know how you can come back from that.

She wasn't busted for selling dope or breaking into cars. Those I can see giving a second chance after.

She was a fully aware member of a transnational terrorist organization that has destroyed the lives of thousands upon thousands. Yet she chose to express this dissatisfaction with ISIS her desire to be repatriated only AFTER she was caught by Kurdish fighters.

In other words, she was a hardcore jihadist until ISIS was put on the run and now she thinks that she should just be able to go back to grabbing a latte at Starbucks and getting her nails done like nothing ever happened.

Bring her child to the US and place it in a loving home that can raise it with values and a sense of right and wrong. She has demonstrated quite clearly that she is, in no way, a fit mother.

Could we trade her and her child for pumpkin head? We can throw in his whole clan as well. Except for Tiffany, she seems to have stayed away from the rest.

We went to great lengths to bring him home so he could be court martialed. Do I have that right? Anyway, he was clearly of European extraction.

She was born on US soil, so she would normally be a citizen.

But, her parents were here on diplomatic visas, so she would not normally be a citizen.

But, they were no longer diplomats when she was born, so it's up in the air.

And, of course, it's really about Trump being a scumbag again.
