Senator Kevin Cramer, a North Dakota Republican, claimed this week that members of Congress are opposing President Donald Trumps national emergency declaration because they dislike the president. Its a well-worn talking point we hear on a daily basis, as though Trump is some poor third grader who regularly gets beat-up in the schoolyard for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
I really dont understand why you Republicans dont get the bleedin obvious. So let me help you out.
Most people tend to dislike a so-called pResident whose every statement is a lie, who fabricates statistics and pulls facts out of his ass that are as self-serving as they are ludicrous, and who constantly accuses others of doing exactly what he does on a daily basis. Its an insult to their intelligence and the only reason MAGAts accept this behaviour is because they dont have enough intelligence to be insulted.
Decent people dislike anyone who brags about grabbing pussies, publicly mocks the disabled, and announces that Nazis and white supremacists are very fine people. The only people who support such a man are those who are just too fucking stupid to understand why such conduct is as unacceptable as it is reprehensible.
Patriots who love their country dislike a man who jeopardizes our standing in the global community by insulting our nations allies while embracing dictators like Putin and Kim Jung-Un, and has no problem dismissing our own intelligence community in order to side with our enemies. The only people who think this kind of conduct is a good thing are those who are incapable of thinking at all.
People with religious principles dislike a man who brazenly demonstrates his complete lack of morals by tearing traumatized children away from their parents, by demonizing anyone who is not white, and who pursues policies that ignore the homeless, the hungry, and the sick the very people all religions admonish their adherents to protect. The only people who applaud such actions are the hypocrites who, while holding themselves out as good Christians, are as equally devoid of morals themselves.
Patriots who respect our country, its institutions, its laws, and the foundation of our democracy dislike a pResident who consistently undermines the things that ensure that democracy like a free press, and the power of congress to hold anyone and everyone accountable for their actions. The only people who stand with a man who seeks to destroy the underpinnings of democracy are those who dont posses the intellectual capacity to understand just how dangerous such behaviour is.
Citizens who understand how our democratic process works are understandably appalled by the appointment of incompetent, inexperienced, and totally inept people to positions of power and influence. The only people who believe putting a bunch of foxes in charge of our countrys henhouses is a great idea are those who believe Ivanka, Jared, and Don Junior somehow became experts overnight on the running of a nation, along with a sudden expertise on international affairs.
Americans who are rightfully concerned about the respect traditionally demonstrated by a president for the office he holds dislike a pResident who disgraces that office by using it to sell his brand-name, made-in-China merchandise in order to line his own pockets. Ironically, many of the people who are ignoring this blatant self-serving conduct are people who once had good-paying jobs in US factories that produce branded hats, T-shirts, and other such paraphernalia.
The people who dislike Donald J. Trump dont merely dislike him. They despise him, they detest him, and many downright hate him. And they have every reason to do so.
Those who continue to stand behind the lying, pussy-grabbing, Putin-fellating pResident are simply too dumb to realize that everything hes done is the undoing of everything they claim to uphold. And pretending that those of us disgusted by him and everything he stands for should be relegated to the status of disliking a traitor is demonstrative of just how clueless and willfully ignorant Republicans are.

(25 posts)Hello Nance -
I am all for you. Please know that. But I need to add to your reasoning concerning how the r's have managed to get to where they are concerning everything that is going on. I live in a part of Kansas that is bleeding blood red as red as red can get. What I and a few of my smarter friends have decided is this mindset that the r's have isn't just about ignorance. Although their actions seem so ignorant it is beyond comprehension, it isn't just ignorance that is creating this behavior. It is pride, arrogance and self-righteousness also. All three combined and well developed over many generations of time. The pride has blinded them to themselves. As in totally and completely blind. My friend and I hear it at every election no matter who the candidate is these hard core r's say it every time "I am voting r right down the ballot." And they do. This pride is truly a sickness that is beyond my ability to interpret. My friend and I have said it time and time again that they could bring Hitler back from the dead and run him as an r and he would get 80% of the vote in the town I live in. Seriously. And we even add that even if the people knew what Hitler had done and what he was going to do again "they would still vote for him." Again, it is beyond comprehension. That is just the pride aspects. Then you add the arrogance that goes with the "we republicans are just a little better than the rest of you and no matter what you say or what you think we don't care because of how great we are." You can take that thought to the bank. Now this is a very accurate described behavior also. It is subliminal to them but it oozes from every pore when you get up close and listen. And now one last variable. The holier than thou evangelical part of the population self-righteousness. And that is untouchable. Literally. I have never seen it like what it is right now. I mean Pat Robertson right off the bat said He took me to heaven and I saw donald trump seated at the right hand of our Lord. That was it. trump was God or a close equivalent. Now that messes with my head. My friend and I hear it all the time. Just as sure as these same people spoke of "hanging Obama" daily up until the last two months of his presidency. These same people don't think, they know trump was put in as the president by God Himself. And so with these 3 variables working intertwined within a human psyche there is a problem. On top of that this whole agenda of white supremacy and all the other r platform principles is who the r party has been seeking to develop into since the party started. This is the first time they have actually gotten all of their platform out in front of the world. And it is ugly. The most ugly set of circumstances and principles I have ever seen in my life. And these people have been led to believe that with these 3 character aspects of their thoughts and deep seeded teachings for all of their life and for generations of time. It is a soul sickness that is not likely to go away anytime soon and because of the depth of these emotional thoughts it is a brainwashing to such a gigantic level it is unimaginable. And thus the disturbance. They are so brainwashed because of these deep heartfelt human beliefs that I don't have any answers as to how to make a change. In some deeper reading I have looked at the only time these people change party affiliation is during times like the Great Depression because it lasted so long and World War II because of how much force was applied to save the world. Otherwise nothing changes their beliefs. It is the very most discouraging aspect of where I live that I have seen in all of my life. I have never seen anything like it. I share this as a concept for others to think about and perhaps come to a full recognition of what we are actually up against concerning these matters. I know one thing, there is no reasoning with them and there is no changing them. It is who they are. Just a thought in kind Nance. Thank you for your words. I appreciate what you do to a gigantic level. Please know that.

(53,410 posts)It was hard on my eyes to read your post because it was very long and you should have broken it up with more white space. You should break it all up into separate paragraphs because its vey hard to read and most people wont bother.
I really appreciate what you wrote because it brings a new perspective which is very enlightening and it appears to be a sincere attempt to explain the Trump supporters.
I appreciate and welcome your point of view!
Last night when this came into my head I just wrote. And wrote and wrote. Thank you for your advice.

(25 posts)Thank you very much for your words of support. I have fought to keep my head above the water and not get sucked into the insanity. It is amazing after having grown up in these parts to see how much subliminal natural R'ism naturally becomes part of a persons identity. It seemed so normalized. I see. I know. I am done. The obvious has become clear. I sure appreciate the little kind gestures that come my way as I continue forward towards the better and higher truth. Again, thanks for your gentle nudging of support !!!

(836 posts)"...pride, arrogance and self-righteousness..." You broke it down into motivators underlying the thinking/behavior and I couldn't agree more. Break those three down further (along with any other character defect you can imagine) and underlying it all is fear. Fear, indifference and humility are (for the most part) the fundamental emotional/psychological states in which we exist. So guess which state drives/underlies absurd thinking/behavior?
These people are not dumb. But many are authoritarians (fear driven) and most display not a modicum of self-awareness; they are not critical thinkers (as exemplified by their passionate embrace and defense of the absurdity of religion) and they do not, and cannot, see their own flaws.
So how can they be expected to address a problem they don't even know exists? They can't. No one has the ability to be even moderately self-aware without input from another/others and their "pride, arrogance and self-righteousness" (fear) will not allow them to do so.
So how do we promote self-awareness, critical thinking and the absence of fear to these poor people? How do you promote humility (absence of fear) to people who refuse to even consider it? By example. By calm, rational, non-confrontational conversation. Those are the only things I can think of. Unfortunately, most people will only take a hard look at their thinking/behavior when absolutely forced to by undergoing some personal catastrophe.

(25 posts)I agree with your words. I have no answers and I am no longer interested in attempting to discuss these thoughts with the r's. They either act as if they are going to walk away to show their distaste or they start yelling. Where I have actually gotten is to support what I believe to offer goodness for those that believe in the D platform. Any attempt at changing the others is wasted energy of which I could have used to find a better truth for the people. All of the people. That last statement may have sounded closed minded. That is not the case. I just know where I live and the rarity to have discussions with these people with any expectation of having any common ground.

(17,984 posts)Because I left a Southern Baptist Church after hearing the Pastor tell me who I should vote against, guess who?
Still on the Prayer Chain I received a Sermon comparing Trump to Winston Churchill. Trmp was not perfect, but neither was Churchill. Both great messengers! Yuck!
I did give the sender of that email a nice? Email. Iwas already gone.
The ignorance and hero worship is appalling. I understand they are losing people, especially the younger, educated .

The image of Trump "fellating Putin" is, IMHO, perfectly on point when describing Spanky's behaviour towards Vlad - on his knees, submissive, and attempting to pleasure a man he is more than willing to grovel before.
And just BTW, I am the extremely proud mother of a lesbian. So you can put your "not so subtle homophobia" comments in the appropriate orifice.

... CRAMER: Barack Obama declared a national emergency to fight swine flu and we didnt have a single case of it in the United States.
THE FACTS: Cramer is wrong. More than 1,000 people had died in the U.S. from the flu strain known as H1N1, commonly called the swine flu, by the time Obama declared a national emergency over the outbreak Oct. 23, 2009, according to reporting by The Associated Press.
The first swine flu death in the U.S. was reported in April 2009. By the time of Obamas declaration, widespread flu activity was reported in 46 states.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates the flu strain was linked to more than 274,000 hospitalizations and 12,000 deaths in the U.S. between April 2009 and April 2010, according to final figures released in 2011. The 2009 swine flu was particularly devastating for people younger than 65, according to a 2012 CDC report ...
