...an immigrant or a person of color.
Millions of televisions would melt from the intense coverage by American media.

(62,444 posts)Take a story, propose a hypothetical change in facts, imagine an outcome, and then express outrage at the product of that imagination.
Imagine this for a moment...
Imagine that the details of his detection and investigation were made absolutely clear to every nutjob out there, so that the next one can do a better job of hiding his or her tracks.
Not every criminal is a prop in a morality play of some kind.
This world is a challenging enough one without imagining some alternative world in which to get upset.
The reason this story gets no media juice is that the investigators and prosecutors aren't interested in making him an underground hero or bringing attention to how they caught him; he's in custody and there's not going to be any perp walks or media interviews; there's no handy stock footage of this guy to run; and so there's just no media juice to this thing beyond repeating the facts in the indictment. There's no Hollywood angle, and we pretty much know what the outcome is going to be - the guy is going to get locked up for a long time whether in a mental ward or a prison. He's not a millionaire with much public interest.
There is, in fact, a current story involving a Muslim terrorist which is getting very little attention - i.e. the situation involving the apparent US citizen who went abroad with her US passport, joined ISIS and now wants to return. While of course she could be charged with any number of crimes upon her return, the overwhelming sentiment here on this bastion of supporters of the "rule of law" at DU is that everyone is fine with banishment as applied to a US citizen seeking to return to the US.

(10,820 posts)First you scold about hypotheticals and imaginings and then you go on to do the that very thing.
Your minimization of the enormity of what this man was proposing is noted.
Cheers!

(315 posts)You know we do this exercise every time one of these things go down and I am not sure it is helping. True the media doesnt handle it the same but I think it does a disservice to Muslims to make them the go to comparison with these things. We can actually demand that the media cover these things by asking them why they arent talking about the domestic terrorist.
I dont know if I am saying it correctly but it just seems that we further the stupid stereotype that muslim folk are the default picture of terrorism.
