Human traffickers lured women to massage parlors where they were intimidated into prostitution
An investigation culminated in charges against dozens who solicited the parlors, including Kraft
Warrants have been issued for 173 people
So far, nearly 50 of the 165 accused of paying for sex acts have been arrested

(33,643 posts)To me, prostitution being illegal is ridiculous.
I think we should bring it all above ground, have people get licensed, registered, paying taxes on proceeds, etc.
Then, the people that try to circumvent the proper channels ... can be singled out and prosecuted to the fullest extent.
I doubt they discover much trafficking going on in states where prostitution is legal and regulated. ESPECIALLY if the regulators have the ability to protect/help the women who are being forced to register as sex workers via illegal coercion. That's a very important component IMHO.
Just MHO.

(19,037 posts)The girls are the victims.
And you would be wrong about places with legalized prostitution not having so much trafficking, those states have huge problems too because sex slaves are more profitable.
In some European countries the issue is effectively policed by treating all of the women exactly like what they are, victims. The entire effort that stops it is prosecuting the men as sex offenders.
When you're talking about willing prostitutes, they do exist, but you're talking about the exception to the norm. Even the girls in the brothels in Nevada are being exploited.

(48,988 posts)Sex workers are not automatically victims. To claim so is to deny adult competent women AND men choice of employment.
How are the women (not "girls" ) in Nevada being exploited?
It is disrespectful of women to call them girls. The women in brothels in Nevada are of age and are women, not "girls".
Isn't it a bit of an antiquated attitude to write as you do as if all sex workers are women?

(3,911 posts)Sex workers are adults. Minors are not workers, they are victims.
Sex workers come in all shapes, sizes, and genders. Sex workers are not exclusively women for men.
Sex workers are not all prostitutes. Strip club dancers are sex workers. Sex therapists are sex workers. Porn stars are sex workers.

(13,390 posts)Craftsmanship was overtaken by mass production and retail, which now operates as entities which guarantee the exploitative forces US capitalism that reduce personal agency of laborers in many areas of employment.
Why anyone would believe that legalized prostitution would not follow a similar path is beyond me.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)The fact of the matter is that it is illegal, right now, in most states. Robert Kraft is a big boy (I'm not buying any "youthful indiscrection" alibi, either), and has some highly competent lawyers on retainer who should be able tell him that whether or not he "believes" that trafficking is involved, what he's doing is illegal as all hell.
The traffickers are being arrested where they can be found. But the traffickers would turn to something more ethical like back alley cock fights if there weren't any high roller clients paying for the services they offer.

You wonder what happened to all those young girls who were snatched away from their mothers at the Southern border.
