Let us not forget.....

When things start to get really hot,

there are often some stories thrown out in the media,

that are really juicy,

but they are false stories that are purposely planted

to cause confusion and to muddy the waters

they are often based on a kernel of truth but stretched into something false

designed to grab our attention

and to cause people like you and me to share them with others, and say "check this out!", only to find out later it was false, so then WE lose our credibility too.

and then the kernel of truth, which was actually really important, goes down the tubes with the whole story.

we have seen it before.

classic Roveian tactic.

expect it again.

people say "be the media."
i'd take it a step further and say
"We are the media" whether we like it or not, and as such we have a responsibility to fact check and not fall for Roveian pranks without checking sources, especially of stories that sound to good to be true.

Why am i posting this now?
is there something specific?
well the story today about Trump being implicated for child rape in the Epstein case made me post this. I'm not saying it's false but it doesn't pass the sniff test for me on first look. When I first read it, I found myself wanting to tell everyone about it. Why isn't this on the front pages? Then I read the Snopes page about the story and I think there are a lot of unanswered questions that I would like to hear answers to before I jump on board with this one. Meanwhile the story making it's way to the top of the DU Greatest page:

Trump was sued for rape by minor girl in a "fixed" Epstein case

Again I'm not saying it's a false story. But there are some things that don't pass the sniff test. and I am not shouting this one from the rooftops. for example, the first case was thrown out because the plaintiff provided an address to an abandoned building and the phone number on the form went straight to voicemail. that kind of smells like something Rove or o'keefe would do.

But beyond this one story, i think we all have to remind ourselves there are very devious people out there doing anything they can to divert us from the truth and one thing they do is plant false stories.

Let's all be vigilant.

C'ya.
