Other than one statement condemning the deals opponents on Feb. 14, the governor effectively went into bunker mode after possibly the greatest single defeat of his eight years in office.
Finally, on Friday, Mr. Cuomo emerged, apparently eager to make up for lost time.
What happened is the greatest tragedy that I have seen since I have been in government, the governor told WAMCs Alan Chartock during a nearly 30-minute radio interview that consisted almost entirely of his anger about Amazon, although none of it was directed at the company.
Mr. Cuomos approach was markedly different from that of Mayor Bill de Blasio, another of the deals chief architects. Since the plans collapse under the fierce opposition of progressive activists and politicians, Mr. de Blasio has turned on Amazon, perhaps in preparation for a presidential bid in which those same people are likely to play a major role.
Mr. Cuomo showed no interest in currying that favor. He returned instead to one of his favorite talking points: that so-called progressives, some of his loudest critics, did not know how to govern.

(31,949 posts)They would have normally paid 30 billion but got a 3 billion "break". So the opponents threw away 27 billion because they were mad about 3 billion. With average wages of $150,000 the city would have gotten about $6,000 a year in income taxes. So that was thrown away. Other cities will be happy to take up that "math".

(31,949 posts)This was the average salary at this headquarters. And the one in VA. But let other cities have that money. AOC said paying employees that much would mean the housing prices would go up. Talk about an upside down world. Complaining about a company paying its employees too much! She owns it and so does anyone supporting her.
