and btw, I've not seen ANY mention of this on any story about the Oscars. Admittedly, I fell asleep halfway through coverage, but I've read several MSM recaps.

With considerable effort, I found this:

Period. End of Sentence, a short documentary about Indian women who organized around creating accessible hygiene products and fighting the stigma against menstruation in rural India, just won the award for Best Documentary Short at the 2019 Oscars. It was the first time a film about periods made it to the Oscars stage, and as a crew of all women came onstage to accept the award, that fact was not ignored.

That it took quite a bit of searching to find that, I would say your assumption that everyone will be ridiculing it with the dismissive quotes is actually not the case.

Having worked in India and seen the horrific plight of "lower class/caste" women there, I think this is incredibly significant. I applaud those who shed light on even this seemingly minor issue--at least to men. It certainly is NOT insignificant to the women--who, in rural areas face the risk of rape and death just going outside to use a privy.

So, how about we not be so damned dismissive--even if it is a problem that you can not relate to.

This recent incident in Nepal only underscores how horrific this issue can become:
