**Breaking** British Oppo Labour Party will support new Brexit referendum (NYT)

Labour Party Leader, Under Pressure, Backs a New Brexit Referendum

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/25/world/europe/labour-second-referendum-brexit-corbyn.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage

LONDON — Britain’s opposition Labour Party said on Monday that it was prepared to support a second referendum on withdrawal from the European Union, a shift that could have significant ramifications for the fate of Brexit and for the country’s future.

After the resignations of nine Labour Party members last week, and amid the prospect of more, the party’s leader, Jeremy Corbyn, dropped his longstanding resistance to a second vote on leaving the bloc.

Getting an amendment for a new vote through Parliament any time soon is unlikely, but Mr. Corbyn’s support for one will cheer pro-European Britons, who have been fighting to reverse the outcome of the 2016 referendum decision. Without the support of Labour, there is no chance of a second referendum ever being authorized by lawmakers.

Though lacking in detail, Labour’s announcement suggested that, under pressure from many of his own lawmakers and party members, Mr. Corbyn, who is a lifelong critic of the European Union, will ultimately fall into line with those who support a so-called people’s vote.

... US has; a rabid base that will lose them elections if the 10% can be shaved off.

I do agree with Russian interference though, since there was Russian interference she doesn't really know what the public sentiment is and should have a do over.

Theresa May knows she has to deliver a deal. If there is no deal, a lot of pro EU Tory MPs will jump ship. And that will be the end of her government.

An Article 50 extension plus a new referendum may be the way out. The EU isn't going to budge on its deal. Northern Ireland is the sticking point; the Good Friday deal did not have a UK leaving the EU in mind. Let the people decide in a three option vote... Deal, No deal, no Brexit.

I've read before that depending upon what the people are allowed to even vote upon could have as much to do with the outcome as anything. May could put on the ballot the binary choice of "the deal we've already negotiated" or "stay". That could push things back towards pro-EU position because even alot of pro-Brexit folks don't like the deal negotiated. A 3 option vote could result in no "majority" and in fact could produce an outcome that appeared to favor exit.

Alternately, they could put something on the ballot about the hard border in NI. That could push things towards a pro-EU position. They could also only have a "deal or no deal" option that would probably go the "deal" way. This could force them to withdraw from the Article 50 declaration and into negotiations that may never be successful. Sorta a "Pro-EU by default" option.

May needs to step up and do this - it is the ONLY way out from the nightmare Putin orchestrated.
