I have now spent more time in Vietnam than Da Nang Dick Blumenthal, the third rate Senator from Connecticut (how is Connecticut doing?). His war stories of his heroism in Vietnam were a total fraud - he was never even there. We talked about it today with Vietnamese leaders!

Do you suppose he talked with Vietnamese leaders about his bone spurs, as well? I'll bet they had a good laugh about that.

(11,085 posts)An American president with FIVE deferments during the Vietnam War, went to Vietnam and discussed a third rate United States Senator with Vietnamese leaders.
How disgraceful.

(58,785 posts)cringe this morning, though they probably learned to avoid his tweets as just too painful. Some remember the days when our representatives were supposed to be gentlemen, even if they weren't, and this complete lack of manners and dignity would be unthinkable.
The statement Sen. Blumenthal once made that he had been in Vietnam instead of merely serving in the reserves during the Vietnam War is another issue, of course. We don't excuse this behavior.

(58,785 posts)He's focused on the wellbeing of, and accomplished a lot for, vets over his career, and there's no doubt about his own admiration and respect for those who did.
No one who shared his concern would ever have voted to make Trump their commander in chief. Besides his disordered disregard of combat risks, he's been working at secretly dismantling the VA.

(5,319 posts)Trump will find many amazing building projects to do in Vietnam, stay there a while, and forget about the USA?
Or perhaps Kim can offer him some rich chocolate cake back home in North Korea, and keep him there as a friendly pet?
Either way, most Americans won't mind!

(11,884 posts)Is profiles in Cowardice. Attacking people that served when he refuses to by paying off a doctor for his excuse shows what he's really all about. He's jealous of others because they were brave enough to be a part of defending OUR country, when he didn't. How any member of our military can back this coward is interesting . He had to ask putin what he could do in Vietnam regarding the Kim meeting should by itself be enough of a red flag he's not on our side. The kim summit is all PR for distractions , and nothing he claims was agreed on can be verified as the truth, just like the putin meetings. Putin will have him give more away . If trump claims his relationship with Kim is great, just think the opposite, and its probably closer to the truth. Its trump projecting the opposite of it again.
