...what does that say about the man who hired him as his chief legal officer????
The Latin phrase "res ipsa loquitor" comes to mind (i.e., the thing speaks for itself)

If Cohen is such a liar (Original Post)

(3,344 posts)1. IMHO, the best way to frame this is to say Cohen used to lie for Trump but has now come clean
This framing makes sense since so many of his previous lies were implausible, while many of the new statements are corroborated by documents and other testimony.
We should frame this as "Cohen is now telling the truth".

There's an entire paper trail around this particular series of payments. I am going to charitably assume you are not aware of it.

(62,444 posts)3. Some folks are really missing the point about what he was lying ABOUT
He was convicted of lying to Congress by denying that Trump Tower Moscow negotiations were ongoing during the campaign.
That was the lie.
That lie does not serve Michael Cohen. It is no skin off his back how late Trump was negotiating with Moscow. It IS, however, a big deal to Trump, because the lie serves Trump's interest in denying his dealings with Moscow.
To admit that was a lie is to accept the fact that Trump was negotiating with Moscow during the campaign.
I find it amazing that the GOP reps are able to squirt that "he's a liar" squid ink, and the press lets them do it without a moment's reflection on "what was he lying about, for whom, and why?"
