If you’re going to allow/encourage Teachers to carry a weapon, then they should obviously be trained… But requiring them to be trained up to the level of a law-enforcement officer is excessive.

The problem is I'm not familiar with the training required of LEOs. If we're going to have people toting guns in schools, then it might not be so bad for them to have to qualify every so often like LEO.

I just did a quick search on "what does a police officer have to do to qualify in gun training" and the results were not encouraging.

That’s excessive for someone who might someday need to react to a school shooting. All they need (beyond what any concealed carry should require) is a long list of times NOT to get your gun.

Something is not correct and I'm betting it's the 728 number. That's getting close to half a year. None of the other articles suggest anything like that.

FYI, I totally agree 728 is excessive. You're correct. I'm having some trouble reconciling that number with the other reading I'm doing on the subject.

And/or assume that the academy is not their only training.

Not that it matters. Either is excessive for the teachers/administrators in this case.

I updated my earlier post to agree with you. 728 would be insanely excessive.

What is the court's number?

Defending yourself and others is far different than going after someone who has committed some crime.

And the article is very misleading. It implies the 728 hour of training police receive is on firearms. That is the entire length of the academy to fully train a police officer. Teachers have no need for all of that training.

It indicates the school district requires 27 hours of training. That is actually probably close to the amount of time the officers receive in firearms training.

If they are going to have armed teachers in schools it would be better to have shorter, high quality firearms focused training than waste hundreds of hours on extraneous subjects.

But not to the same level as police. They also need s much stricter rules of engagement I think. I don’t want a teacher pulling out a gun to break up a fight. Lord have mercy this could go so badly.
