so the talking heads are screaming about a new poll about how people hate the word socialism, while thugs paint that on thick.
this is just a feedback loop here, but that is another matter.
there have been many discussions here about this bogus label, and how best to deflect it. lawrence o'donnell had an outstanding 'last word' about the word liberal the other night, and including a west wing clip of jimmie schmitz about picking up that sucker up and wearing it as a badge.
this popped into my head watching alex witt (alex witless more like. tweety in a dress.) teasing the survey results-
is it socialism?
no. it's americanism.
we take care of our people.
that's what's supposed to be exceptional about us.
we are falling far, far short. it is time to catch up.
edited to add that, yes, we already have many aspects of socialism. and just as socialism is practiced differently in different places, we get to make our own version.
theoretically that would combine the best aspects of capitalism w continuing investment is every single person, from cradle to grave.
because investing in our citizens is the best way to both maximize capitalism, and make it fair and democratic.

(22,100 posts)am getting it back. It is for some, but not all.
If you really want to tic off a 'antisocialist', try suggesting Jesus was a socialist. Then, when he goes all Jehovah on you, quote from the book of Ephesians.
Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same. Luke 3:11 NIV

(8,921 posts)that demonstrate what Democrats really want to do. Bills like a repeal of the tax scam and re-distribution to working families, bills improving health care and prescription affordability to more people, bills for infrastructure improvement and jobs. Detailed bills graded by the CBO. It doesn't matter that McConnell won't put them to the Senate floor for a vote, it just shows people what dems are really about and what could be if they are elected to a trifecta in 2020. Something concrete that pushes back against "socialism boogeymen" label attacks that have no substance.
