Maybe Trump will fight impeachment by arguing that he is too insane to be held responsible for High Crimes and Misdemeanors.
First president in history to avoid being removed from office on an insanity plea.
Of course, I suppose if he were to plea not guilty by reason of insanity, he could be removed under the 25th Amendment, if the cabinet had the moral courage to take that steps.
Or would they just conclude that you don't really need to be sane to discharge the duties of the office?

(25,848 posts)He wouldn't even do it to somehow protect himself. He's far too vain, always thinks he's the smartest person in the room, and seems totally convinced that he did nothing wrong.

Insanity is a criminal court defense, and is irrelevant to impeachment proceedings. If anything being insane would only hasten the process, not impede it.
