Republicans - There is no bottom.

I got a forward today from a cousin -- a pediatric nurse. It contained the worst, most insulting "jokes" about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez you can imagine. The forward's list of recipients included 20 people -- some professionals with good educations -- mostly my relatives.

We keep thinking that Republicans being called out on using fascist rhetoric, or being shown that what they're doing mirrors lead-ups to horrible periods in human history will make them wake up and put on the brakes. It never does. All they know how to do is double, triple and quadruple down.

It's as though their entire plan is to roll out the worst ideas humanity ever had just to rub them in the faces of anybody reaching upward. Honestly, who doubts that if they started handing out free brown shirts at T rallies, that even if the attendees were told what that hearkened back to, they would still wear them -- with even more contempt than before. They would revel in it.

I guess what I'm saying is that the idea that shame, or knowledge, or a disclosure, or a resignation would work this all out has gone from me suddenly. I was relying heavily on that idea and don't see a fallback. People who have elevated callousness to an art form are coming -- not for me/us in particular, but for our ideas of the future. How do we live if they pull those down?

I'm truly scared.

The talk of a second civil war is silly. Would any of the militias stand a chance against the forces available to the U.S. government?

I don't doubt that there will continue to be acts of violence by right-wing extremists. But they will never have the force, power or support to actively engage against the U.S.

Besides, they're mostly loud-mouthed cowards.

If he declares the squelching of the free press his next "emergency" sure, a bunch of generals would resign, but that would allow the T loyalists to rise in their stead, giving him his way.

The supreme court would step in, sure, but he would just do it anyway. Then what are the supremes going to do -- send U.S. marshals to the White House? The third branch would be shown to be toothless against the presidency -- like Jackson with the Cherokee.

With the high court defanged and some freshly promoted closet fascists in charge of the Army, he can roll over anything.

and establish a level of character so crassly low and without decency, that there will be no standards too beneath contempt.

The Stupid will chant “Bullshit”.
And a sociopathic, maniacal, breathing-lies bag of scum will hug and rub his face in an American flag to wild, enthusiast, raucous applause of braindead and empty souled rabble.

However, our path of resistance is clearer as well as very difficult. But damn, we now are fighting.
We ARE fighting back. On terms we CAN live with and maintain dignity.
The gloves are coming off.
We, I believe, have shaken off some of the paralyzing numbness. The stunned twilight zone episode has ended.
We ARE fighting back!

We are watching the demons of hate and fear seize our friends and relatives. Previous generations fought with these demons and made it through. We will make it too. But it wasn't easy for them and it won't be easy for us.

Here's what I wrote:

"Hi Lynda,

I am a serious Democrat. My wife, [XXXX] is a Democrat too, although she was once a Republican in better days.

Neither of us liked this forward much, even though we DO like you much.

Just saying.

I'm not sure why you sent that forwarded message to me. I disagree with it very strongly. I'd prefer you not send me such things that you think need to be shared with everyone. If you have a list of people to whom you forward random messages, please take my name off that list. I'll be happy to read your personal messages, but I don't want material like this in my inbox. Thanks.

It's important to click Reply All when you do this. That way, you're letting the sender know that everyone on the list will see your expression of dissatisfaction. That's usually enough to get your name of that person's forwarding list.

And they know I'd be replying all with something considerably less polite. It'd be the same as your message but with a lot more swear words and aspersions about their intelligence and reproductive proclivities. Which is why they don't send me stuff like that.

Just like in "The Road Warrior" If they just would have surrendered the oil, kindly Lord Humongous wouldn't have had to kill anybody. Like his spokesperson, Sarah H.S. said afterward, from the back of her chopper with a handlebars made from human bones, "He did tell them to 'just walk away' repeatedly."

I know. That was way out there, but it felt good to say. (-:
