OK, a small rant to make me feel better.

I had seen the stupid photo of Trump hugging the flag. But Stephen Colbert added the music. I HATE the song God Bless the USA. I hate it. I am sure it is because it is by Lee Greenwood. I remember him introducing it somewhere and giving some lame ass conservative family values rant. Greenwood is married to his 4th wife who is 25 years his junior. Now I will admit they have been married for quite awhile but she is clearly a trophy wife. She was Miss Tennessee (yes, I know) and she was 24 when they married...he was 49.

Is any of this rational on my part....maybe not, but that song is everything phony about conservative patriotism to me.

give a rat's ass about Greenwood's marital life but I absolutely hate that freaking song. I see it as a an anthem to phony patriotism/patriotism under false pretenses. When I lived in Idaho, that was the song blaring from more than half of the floats in any parade which was easily heard throughout the valley... if I never hear it again, that still won't be enough.

Not me, I have stayed age appropriate. What really galls me is the men who have children with age inappropriate wives and their kids collecting Social Security when their father gets old enough or dies.

when the song first came out, I liked it for a couple of minutes until I thought about it... now I absolutely hate it as it has become a rallying call for trumpsters

Great location on the bluffs overlooking the Pidgeon river in Sevierville. It was a monument to Greenwood and that song, lol. Guess that wasn't enough to keep them in business!

You think you hate that song? Try playing it 3 times every 6 hours six days a week.

Later, you got to play it as an oldie: "And now, here's Lee Greenwood with a medley of his greatest hit."

During the Vietnam War flag decals were the rage with right wingers and others.

While digesting Reader's Digest in the back of a dirty book store
A plastic flag, with gum on the back fell out on the floor
Well, I picked it up and I ran outside, slapped it on my window shield
And if I could see old Betsy Ross I'd tell her how good I feel

But your flag decal won't get you into Heaven anymore
They're already overcrowded from your dirty little war
Now Jesus don't like killin', no matter what the reason's for
And your flag decal won't get you into Heaven anymore

Well, I went to the bank this morning and the cashier he said to me
"If you join the Christmas club we'll give you ten of them flags for free"
Well, I didn't mess around a bit, I took him up on what he said
And I stuck them stickers all over my car and one on my wife's forehead

But your flag decal won't get you into Heaven anymore
They're already overcrowded from your dirty little war
Now Jesus don't like killin', no matter what the reason's for
And your flag decal won't get you into Heaven anymore

Well, I got my window shield so filled with flags I couldn't see
So, I ran the car upside a curb and right into a tree
By the time they got a doctor down I was already dead
And I'll never understand why the man standing in the pearly gates said

"But your flag decal won't get you into Heaven anymore
We're already overcrowded from your dirty little war"
"Now Jesus don't like killin', no matter what the reason's for
And your flag decal won't get you into Heaven anymore"

It is everything that is wrong with the soppy, feigned, self-righteous brand of patriotism that the right-wingers so proudly wear on their sleeves. I makes me want to vomit every time I hear it.

It's so good to see these responses and know I'm not alone. When you see who embraces it, you can't help but be inflamed at the hypocrisy of its adoption and usage.

Lee Greenwood needs to walk off into the sunset, singing that song for the final time. While he's at it, he can take Trace Adkins along with him.
