Before I get accused of whatever, let it be known that I, DanTex, lived in Red Texas for a significant part of my life, and I still have many friends there who are great people. And there are plenty of right-wing idiots from Blue States, including in NYC where I live now (for example Donald Trump).
Nevertheless.
The influence on the course of world affairs that comes from ignorant racists living in US red states and districts is absurd.
For starters, the outsize influence of the American voter is absurd. The majority of the world population doesn't want us to go around bombing people. They want to save the earth by reducing climate emissions. But, because the US is so powerful, the world doesn't get what it wants.
But what the world gets isn't even what the average American wants! Thanks to the absurdity of the electoral college, the senate giving excess clout to voters in low-population mostly rural states, and the house redistricting process, which -- even when not gerrymandered -- favors right-wingers due to the concentration of liberals in cities.
American Republicans, thanks to what are largely historical coincidences, essentially hold veto power over anything good that might happen politically.
And who are Republicans? Forget about the economic nonsense about the "white working class" falling behind. Most Republicans (by "most", I mean "more than half" ) are brainwashed Christian fundamentalists. Forget about climate change, most don't even believe in evolution. And it's not getting better. Belief in evolution is declining among Republicans.
From a global perspective, American Republicans are a tiny, bizarre, delusional cult. And yet, because of where they live, it's likely that the earth is going to undergo a catastrophic climate crisis.

In a broader sense, it's the US that's screwing up the world for everyone else, at least as far as climate change is concerned. As an American, it doesn't bother me the least bit to admit this.

(32,568 posts)DanTex, we can't fix their Party, all we can do is try to protect ourselves and what's left of our country. I agree with you when you say they're a tiny, bizarre, delusional cult. Their power is outsized in relation to their numbers because of all the wealth they control.
I'm going to say that we Democrats were caught napping when the Repukes' gerrymandering and secret programming of the electronic voting machines was going on. It's been happening for nearly 20 years, but by the time we caught on it was almost too late. We can never let down our guard and we always have to assume the Repukes are cheating somewhere, somehow. They can't win unless they cheat ... and they know it.
It's not too late and we can win back our country, but it's going to take all of us working together. Never trust the Repukes, they're cheating while we sleep.
