and how hard is it to be a senator anyway? kissing ass and collecting perks doesn't take a lot of mental or physical effort, does it? Lets see him drive a truck or lift a patient or even be a Walmart greeter. Bet he'd change his tune....

(7,252 posts)Those who don't know from personal experience what abilities age brings or takes away from individuals, just really doesn't have sufficient information to make that judgement.
Some people at age 65 have plenty of energy, retain great productivity, mental functioning and physical heath, are able to and want to keep working.
Others by the age of 65 experience a loss of functioning and need to retire - for their own sake and for the sake of the business.
The age of retirement should be a choice made by an individual with consultation family and business associates.

(135,630 posts)Washington, D.C. U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, supports saving the life of Terri Schiavo.
On Friday, Terris feeding tube will be removed if legislation does not pass in the U.S. Congress or the Florida legislature to prevent removal of the tube.
We need to do something to stop this unconscionable act on the part of the Florida Court, Santorum said. Terri Schiavo is a daughter, a sister, and most importantly a person. We cannot allow an innocent person to be put to death.
Santorum is a cosponsor of legislation that guarantees legal protections for incapacitated persons, like Terri Schiavo. The Incapacitated Persons Legal Protection Act of 2005, authored by Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL), balances the acknowledged right of a person to refuse consent to medical treatment with the right to consent to treatment to preserve life.
