(6,709 posts)are the "Hillary-hating horseshoe {huh?} left"? What is that anyway?

(82,849 posts)The ends of a horseshoe are as far apart from each other as they can be in a linear sense, but when considered as part of the shape of a horseshoe, they are really quite close (though they remain separate). Sometimes someone you are philosophically opposed to can follow their logic to its end, and wind up with a position that's awfully close to your own. They may have reached a similar conclusion to your own, but taken a very different path to get there.
It can be an interesting situation: Do you make common cause with a political enemy because you're trying to achieve the same or similar goal? Or do you mistrust the motives of a potential ally enough to keep your distance and let an injustice continue? Are you too pure or not pure enough in pursuing your goal? The current "anti-Israel is anti-semitic" kerfuffle is a good example.

(55,445 posts)1. Trump is a lying hypocrite piece of shit who was wholly unqualified to be a garbage collector, much less POTUS
2. Anyone who believed he was ever about peace and anti-intervention (or any of his wacky campaign promises) was a fucking moron
3. Any liberal with half a brain who believed this, much less actually promoted it, is an even bigger moron
4. Yes, there is a vocal faction of so-called opinion leaders on the left who hated Hillary Clinton so much that they either joined the Trump camp or they did everything possible to sabotage Hillary (For example see Greenwald, Glenn; Moore, Michael; and Sarandon, Susan among others). Folks used to complain when I called them "emoprogs" and "dudebros", so now I call them the "horseshoe left": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horseshoe_theory
