Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver has dementia and is retiring from public life

Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver has been diagnosed with dementia, his family confirmed.

According to the Los Angeles Times' Bill Shaikin, Seaver will remain active at his personal vineyard "but has chosen to completely retire from public life."

Seaver played 20 years in MLB, including 12 with the New York Mets. He was a 12-time All-Star and won the National League Cy Young Award in 1969, 1973 and 1975.

The 74-year-old is by far the most legendary pitcher in Mets history. He's the runaway leader in WAR (76.1), with Dwight Gooden a distant second (41.6), according to Baseball Reference. He's also first in ERA (2.57), wins (198), strikeouts (2,541), complete games (171) and shutouts (44).

Saw him win his 300th game at the Stadium. It was Phil Rizzuto Day. Good times.

Also, 5 virtual du bucks to the person who can name me the other Mets rookie pitcher that year...his rookie card used to be extremely collectible.

Because technically that 68 year wasn't Ryan's first year with the Mets either..cause he had gotten called up in 66 but missed the entire 67 season with injury. I was speaking about Seaver's ROY card and Ryan's official "rookie card" from 68. (This is what I get for multitasking and DU'ing at the same time)

My dad was a baseball card fiend in the 50's/60's and he gave me his collection. Seaver's rookie, as well as more than one Ryan rookie and a pleathers of other greats were stashed away in his collection.
