Pensions weren't a gift from Corporate America, they were fought for by the masses who bonded together to seek a decent livelihood. That bloodied gain has been mostly squandered since by individuals conned into believing they can negotiate a living on their own better than with a union. They were brainwashed by companies determined to take back every benefit earned since WWII and the birth of the middle class.
The first erosion of a dignified retirement came with unions on the decline and the 401k scam where we pay half into our own retirement and the corporations matching it. "It's great! You can take it with you if Wall Street doesn't bungle the investment". Now with unions on the ropes, companies found if they just hire more minimum wage workers, then cut everyone's hours, they can maintain a part time workforce where no one ever gets ahead. No health care, no pensions, and no raises, not ever.
It's past time for another workers rebellion and it only works if we all say it together: "We've had enough!" like the men and women below. We can't afford to wait until they come after the Social Security fund. we have to take command and turn this corporate ship around before we all drown in it's wake.

(1,588 posts)we have no bargaining power. I can't think of any trade left to organize that would draw any attention to the middle class needs except maybe the truckers. The only one was the air traffic controllers during the government shutdown that got their attention. It would take a 10 million citizen walk on Washington and even then I don't know if it would do any good.
