General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThey hate liberals more than Trump embarrasses them.
This past weekend, was around some Trump supporters.
They talked about his lying, womanizing, bigotry, etc.
None liked him or respected him.
But they self identify as conservative Republicans.
And that trumps everything.
They said that having such a scoundrel is still infinitely preferable to electing Democrats who they see as anti capitalist, anti American, and anti God.
You can not reason with these Fox News, right wing radio brainwashed morons.

(10,437 posts)uninformed, under educated rightwing masses gravitate to hate.
No amount of "information" can swing these people and need not waste time or effort on them. Its the 10% of those in the middle that wins elections. Democrats more often then not allow GOP to define who they are based on all the tried and true scare tactics. We still haven't learn how to avoid the "socialist" anchor around our necks. New adjectives need to be used to replace "socialism".
wrap in a flag and freedom.....it will work. Throw in some jesus stuff, it will work.

(9,257 posts)Thats why I dont support Bernie. Hes just not going to appeal to the middle folks.
Farmer-Rick
(10,140 posts)as the middle? I would consider them the extreme.
Most of the middle didn't come out to vote for president last time around. I think the percentage of people who can vote that do vote is like 58%. I think if we appealed to that other 48%, and got them excited to come out and vote, we would win by a land slide. To hell with trying to appeal to RepubliCON extremists.
Ligyron
(7,616 posts)But just who are these people? Are they like a cross-section of the general population politically? I doubt it but then I know of no study
identifying or even attempting to identify who these folks are or why they don't bother voting. I would hazard to guess we'd find that a good number of them are just too friggin' lazy to be bothered and more than a few would say some variation of "why bother, they're all the same." or "The whole thing is rigged anyway". We know that a lot of young people don't vote so there's fertile ground there.
It's the same percentage of people in every election cycle I can remember it seems like and the first step in wining them over would be to identify who exactly they are.

(807 posts)Then you have the Evangelicals who think Democrats are Satans spawn. I have heard them say with disgust that they will not vote for a Democrat. I checked out the Facebook pages of two local pastors and they are diehard Trump supporters with one even wearing a MAGA hat These churches may as well be PACAs because they preach right wing bullshit. Take away their tax free status.

(13,565 posts)The Democratic Party should mount a PR campaign on the history of America's working class, emphasizing all the achievements of unions that truly built America and brought many of our protections.
Contrast that against the FAT CATS billionaires and soft corruption.
Reframe "Democrat" as tough, muscular, no-nonsense core of America.
GET RID of the coastalism and elitism and latte liberalism.
Use Harry Truman. Tough as nails. A winner. Not a soggy-bottomed golfing whiny baby.
Or lose again by portraying a soft, frothy party.

(10,437 posts)100% on target. The ONLY way to survive this is a 67 seat democratic majority in the Senate and 51% in the house and the democrats ridding the all trump/GOP appointed judges thru impeachment process. IF the 2016 election is deemed an outcome by russia/putin, this is the ONLY mechanism we have.
democratic politicians rarily have the guts to do the thing most required and the impact of rightwing federal judges can have impact of DECADES to the point that what makes America, America may forever disappear.

(3,489 posts)Look at their long list of hates
They hate our government for the people, by the people and of the people
They hate our right to vote
They hate giving women control of their bodies
They hate minorities
They hate that are LGBT
They hate liberals
They hate Democrats
They hate socialists
They hate spending money on the people (only spend our tax dollars on the rich)
By the time you add up all their hate, they hate the vast majority of Americans and most of our American ideals

(6,007 posts)He also played a segment from West Wing that he wrote. It was a debate scene. It was about that "liberal" term. He took that word, thrown at his feet, as the Republicans do, and raised it high and talked about what the "liberals" have given the country. The opponent said that Republicans ended slavery (I think there were a few things like that), and the Democrat said that yes, it was the "liberal" Republicans who did that and where are the liberals in the Republican party now? They have been shut out.
That is why I didn't use that name because liberal progress has passed from party to party now and then but it is "liberal" policy no matter what the party.

It gives her a steady dosage of venim, which keeps her in a zombie state of anger, bitterness and know-nothingness. I keep wondering how much happier and bighter the world (even in it's current fairly deplorable state) might seem to her than the views of hell that the RW radio hosts spew out.

(7,142 posts)They hate liberals, hate Democrats. They vote against Democrats, against baby killers. It's Democrats who take tax dollars from hard working Republicans. Democrats are lazy freeloaders. The owner of our local country store said to me last month, you didn't vote for Trump did you? She then said, there was no way that I could vote for Hillary. She never did say one good word about Trump.

(988 posts)They hate liberals more than anything. Many where talking Civil War before the 2016 election. It was so bad that teaming up with Russia to beat the Liberals is ok and not a crime. Its a worth endeavor.
How did it get this way. Watch Fox News in the evening. They constantly stoke hate. the Lazy Left, the evil Left, the terrible liberals, etc, etc, etc.
Its not stop on Fox news in the evening.

And, after all, taxes will go up? Well, you get what you pay for is a tried and true US cliche. Will Medicare for All benefit the corporation's bottom line as well as making things better for all of us? Of course it will.
And don't be afraid to point out how insidious "corporate welfare" is.

(16,905 posts)We are geared differently, have open minds, respect differences, embrace the things that we share in common with other humans. We have compassion, a sense of fair play, a desire to make the world better for everyone, not just one person, or one family, or one group. trump's horde therefore see us as the enemy, and a weak enemy at that. They are wrong about that as well.

You'd better believe they're out there in the millions and they believe they have a part to play in what they believe are the endtimes foretold in their bibles.
Every other religion will play its part, too, to bring about the apocalypse they envision.
I live in Chicago in summer weather, and in Florida in winter months, and I've never seen the churches so full in either place.
People are hunkering down for something awful.
It's not just what only 2 million Fox viewers are exposed to.
Believe that.
