Seven nations have grounded Boeing 737 Max 8 jets operated by their airlines after an Ethiopian Airlines 737 Max 8 crashed, killing 157 people and triggering safety concerns about Boeings newest, best-selling single aisle jet.
North American aviation safety regulators and airlines didnt immediately take similar actions, however, with major airlines saying they have confidence in Boeings jet and will continue to operate it.
The cause of Sunday's Ethiopian Airlines crash remains unknown, but Ethiopia, China and the Grand Caymans and Morocco all cited passenger safety concerns and an earlier 737 Max 8 crash shortly after takeoff for their respective decisions.
In late October, a Lion Air 737 Max 8 crashed into the sea shortly after takeoff, killing all 189 passengers and crew onboard the Indonesian airline's jet. China, Ethiopia and the Grand Cayman Islands grounded those jets Sunday.
Airlines in Indonesia, Morocco, Mongolia and South Africa followed suit on Monday.
